I'm pretty sure ages ago some1 posted here an archive of sorts of like rlly old hip hop forums from like 2000. Illmatic was copping hate left right and center. was probably 50/50 mix of people saying its good and people saying it was complete trash. just a fun fact.

This type of s--- f---ing infuriates me. "can't even understand what he's saying" your not meant to, you f---ing drop kick. Hip hop has always had an underlying influence of heavy slang and using words that only people from similar environments would understand. Imagine if all these 80's/90's rappers didn't use slang and just rapped "in the grimey streets of new york city, I commited crimes and illegally sold class 1 illicit substances - arrest me plz" it's fucken s---. They say words/slang/accents they use. majority of the time saying "I don't understand this hip-hop song or what he's saying" is literally the equivalent of saying "I never struggled in my life, therefore never had the opportunity to hear any of this slang or understand it".

It's why all these super serious "intelligent" listeners think they know more about rap and "cant understand anything future or thug says" It's literally because they are sheltered f---ing fa----s. Like we've all seen the uproar/shitstorm that was caused by thug saying "i put that crack in my crack" when in reality ANYONE who has seen or vaguely experienced this kind of lifestyle knows that stuffing drugs next to your nuts/d-ck/a------ is completely f---ing normal as police would very rarely search people there.

20160429_213737.png So this question is for the users who think most of the rappers right now are all trash and only talk about "drugs, money, and women", think everything on the radio is awful, etc.

What is wrong with artists bragging about what they have or having a song with no clear topic? Why is it a bad thing when, for example, 2 Chainz or Thug do it but when 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, etc. did/do it, it was fine?

Also, why do you place so much importance into record sales? From what I read, Illmatic didn't do great numbers when it initially dropped. Does that mean the album is s---?

    I really don't get it.

    "Reel rap"
The stuff thats popular here isn't my kind of music I like the beats and production a lot most of the time but that's about it
It has no redeeming features what so ever other than that and I wouldn't consider myself a fan of "reel rap" either
