Jul 24, 2016Pac's easily the GOAT to me, Biggie was great too. Pac was an interesting person as well though, not just as a rapper.

And Nas, at 42, will still make me reconsider how I evaluate "good" rap after I hear a verse from him. Just an incredible artist, falling off is a foreign concept to him. -

Life is Good was a the perfect album for him to create at this stage of career. He couldn't have done it any better. -

I don't think Kanye is anything like Nas, but in my opinion, there has never been a more transparent rapper in terms of stream of consciousness setting the framework for almost every verse. Kanye never boxed himself in, and took more artistic risks from one album to the next than many artists take their entire careers (see, J. Cole, Drake or even some of my favourites ever like Fabolous and 50 Cent).
I couldn't ever make an argument that from a technical standpoint, Kanye is even in the top 100 of all time, but I have never cared about a rapper's technical ability, only the final product.
Examples of what I mean (stream of consciousness being the backbone of a verse) are:

Biggie mastered every element of rapping at such a young age and short time in the game. He's probably the greatest rapper of all time. He's timeless. You could throw him on the production we hear today and it would still sound fresh.DKC, Lil Squeed, Ordinary Joel and 2 others like this. -

Why does catalog matter? Biggie was the best. The best flow. He rhymed and spoke with such intensity and purpose. The greatest story teller. Gritty. Violent. Smooth as silk. Blended RnB and gangsta rap, told incredible stories fictional and otherwise in his songs. No weakness to his game.
He's the best of all time in my opinion, no debate to be had.mwarmst, DKC, Mraczewsky and 2 others like this.Nov 25, 2025(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Like literally they are both almost always in the top 2 oat by the average rap fan who probably wasnt alive when they were out. Is it because they died? If you ask me Nas is better than 2Pac. Biggie doesn't have enough catalog to be the best ever imo. Nas even inspired Me and My Girlfriend but i don't see Nas as the GOAT either. Why are Pac and Big almost always 1 and 2?LLLMMMMFFFFFAAAAAAOOOOOO, Ordinary Joel, Ricky and 2 others like this.Nov 25, 2025(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Because both of them died with a flawless discography. They were the 2 best things in hip hop and died before their catalog's could decline in quality.
However, I personally feel that if they survived then Pac would still be f---ing massive, I feel like he would've been open more to move with the times and new sounds.Red Rum, canyouduck and Groovy Tony like this.
