Proof was affiliated with D12World and RB. It was big news on the site when it happened. Even stranger was the fact that I bought "Searching For Jerry Garcia" just a few hours before his death. I remember when it happened there was a lot of confusion until more facts started coming in. Looking back, it does seem like he instigated the altercation. The guy that Proof shot, he supposedly had known him for years. The guard who shot Proof was the other guy's cousin, something like that. It seems that if Proof hadn't reacted so violently, this tragedy wouldn't have occurred. Of course when you're a nobody vs being the best friend of one of the most famous rappers of all time, people are more likely to believe the latter story. I wouldn't say he deserved to die but his actions seemed to have caused his own demise.
