Nov 22, 2016 Back in January, Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) was arrested and charged with using a fake passport and travel documents while trying to leave South Africa. He's been out on bail since then. On Monday, his charges were dropped after he apologized. He then was told he won't be allowed to return to South Africa. “[He] has unreservedly apologized to the government of South Africa," the home affairs department of the country said. "The department is satisfied with the apology [and] will withdraw the charges against him." Bey used a "world passport" when trying to leave South Africa, which the country doesn't accept as a valid document. The passport "is a document issued by the World Service Authority, a non-profit organization set up in the US after the second world war to advocate for world citizenship," according to the Guardian, who reported the news on Bey.
Nov 22, 2016 The passport "is a document issued by the World Service Authority, a non-profit organization set up in the US after the second world war to advocate for world citizenship," I never heard of it either, but if this is what it is i'd like to do more research on it. Throughout my travels the only things that let me bounce from country to country custom is a US Passport and/or if i was on military orders with my Department of Defense ID.
Nov 22, 2016 Yeah honestly doesn't sound real this is the only time I've ever heard of it But seems to ridiculous to be true that mos is traveling with a made up document though lmao
Nov 22, 2016 http://www.worldservice.org/docpass.html It is real, but it may not be accepted everywhere or possibly some limitations as to how long it's good for.
Nov 22, 2016 didn't this happen last year? I remember something about Mos going overseas somewhere and them stopping him cause hiss passport was "fake" like i remember he was posting vids saying he was trapped in the country. Also, South Africans are probably the most racist people you will ever meet i'm 90% sure this is just racism and Mos Def isn't using a fake passport.
Nov 22, 2016 ya no this just sounds like a continuation of the same case f--- mos def either way hes worthless for skipping that mannie fresh collab
Nov 22, 2016 "Today over 160 countries have visaed it on a case-by-case basis." You're right it's not fake, but some countries probably don't acknowledge it.
Nov 22, 2016 yeah thats right, some weird fucky specific s---. i bet people f--- this same thing up going to, or leaving SA all the time and they do nothing.
Nov 22, 2016 You're a "citizen of the world" that's why Mos got it. Some blah blah bs. Should have just got an actual passport tbh.
Nov 22, 2016 I'd imagine this world passport was built on the strength that people should be able to travel wherever they want. This particular world passport may not fulfill the requirements or criteria immigrations and customs have within that respective country. If you're publicly allowing anyone to travel freely throughout countries, the requirements better be significantly higher than just a typical 123 dollar US Passport.
