A lot of good names been thrown around here (Ye, Wayne, Fewtch, Tribe...) so I'll add on:
Cam'ron '00-'04 - He was a star in the making killing feats and SDE is very overlooked, his run with Rocafella was insane; Come Home With Me & obviously Purple Haze are classics and his presence on Diplomatic Immunity made him arguably a contender for NY's best rapper during that time.
Jay-Z '96-03 - "Jigga held you down six summers, where's the love?" by the time The Blueprint dropped, Jay's legacy was already cemented; afterwards BP2 was a bit disappointing but boy did that temporary retirement feel surreal at the time when The Black Album blessed our speakers.
Clipse '02-'06 - From Lord Willin' till h--- Hath No Fury they were giving us coke rap classics and besides Wayne & Joe Budden they had some of the very best mixtapes during that time with the Re-Up g---.
T.I. '03-'08 - I always felt Tip gets hideously overlooked, after he booked it from Arista he went on a blistering run of excellent albums and helped shape the modern "Trap" sound. The only thing that could stop his monster singles and pop success were those jail bids.Dank Sinatra, Jakey, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and 3 others like this.Mar 21, 2026(This ad goes away when signing up) -
