Oct 10, 2015 "Snoop taught the world how to Crip Walk," The Game says. With the release of The Game's The Documentary 2 today (October 9), HotNewHipHop asked the Compton, California rapper about the success of the Los Angeles Rap scene. "I think that the number one reason that LA Rap has flourished is because from the beginning, we never had filters," The Game says. "We never gave a fu*k about what was politically correct." He cites N.W.A's "fu*k Tha Police" as one example, as well as the g--- lifestyles that he and Snoop Dogg rap about, as being influential in defining the West Coast's Rap game. "Snoop taught the world how to Crip Walk," he says. "I taught them how to Blood Bounce. We never gave a fu*k who didn't like it. New York is of course the Mecca of Hip Hop, but you guys were a little too safe." The Game continues by saying that New York does not have an influential rapper representing the city anymore. "New York's been slow as far as the Hip Hop scene on the mainstream level," he says. "With French Montana being from New York, but he seems like he's in the mix of the new generation and could be from Atlanta or Florida or riding that wave 'cause French is just wild like that and not that of a lyricist, a Jay Z or a Nas. We just waiting on your new God, man. Where's he at? The world wants a new New York number one guy." http://hiphopdx.com/news/id.35816/title.the-game-calls-new-york-rap-a-little-too-safe
Oct 10, 2015 Kinda right. Whats up with Jay-Z and Nas ? They have been keeping it quiet for long or am I the one who forgot about them ? As for 50, he gone away from the rap scene in 2009 and he ain't comin back I'm tellin' you, unless you consider songs and albums that nobody even hears when they released a comeback..
Oct 10, 2015 We're not looking for Jay, Nas or 50 to save NY, they did that in the late 90's/early 00's There needs to be a worthy successor for them, but I think the NY sound would be a bit dated this year, which is why there needs to be a complete left turn and someone's gotta bring something fresh.
Oct 10, 2015 A$AP did it. But NY didn't want him. I guess Frenchie and Bobby have been the most mainstream NY acts in recent times. Which says a lot about the scene. NY Radio also tried desperately to make Troy Ave a thing.
Oct 10, 2015 This. I guess Rocky is the closest we'll get to a new leader for NY. He's got mainstream success, underground success, appeals to many audiences, but he lacks the image and promotion that artists like 50 and Jay had.
Oct 10, 2015 OK. Magna Carta wasn't that good but it's not that what I'm tryin' to say. It was in 2013 so is Life Is Good. We about to hit 2016 They kept silence for 2 years.
Oct 10, 2015 I don't really give a f--- about NY rappers I don't care where the f--- is a rapper from. All I want is someone flows like Biggie, Asher Roth or Guru I doN't know just a smooth flow on some dope production
Oct 10, 2015 Shame about ASAP. He's the only thing that can even come from New York at this point. New York style is too stale compared to the new sound
Oct 10, 2015 I feel like they have some buzz. But I see what you mean. They need a hit single to really get them started. But I doubt they will ever go in an even remotely "Pop" direction. I'd like to see them do a track with The Weeknd. And not "I Can't Feel My Face" Weeknd (Although I do like that song) but "Trilogy" Weeknd. Something dark, druggy, distorted, and brooding. That's also dope to bump in the whip. But without sacrificing artistic integrity.
