How is lyricism, subject matter, message, and discography a weird way to think about music?

breaking it into discrete parts makes no sense and frankly just isn't how art works. you cant untangle a person's work into "this category is subject matter, this is message [lol], this is ~lyricism~". first of all, those terms are vague and often overlap. second, it presumes that:

    a. all art has similar goals, or at least equally emphasizes each category, and
    b. that someone can have "better" subject matter than someone else

some people are stylists. some aren't. what are you doing making up rubrics?

    Lol

Lyricism is one of the most important parts of Hip-Hop, it can easily be compared

In terms of subject matter, you could have keep a 6-syllable rhyme scheme across an entire song, but if your words have no meaning to them, it means nothing

And finally, messages are very important to the Hip-Hop culture as a whole, and they were the reason Hip-Hop was created in the first place

It's impossible to define lyricism, lyricism has so many aspects to it. There's technicality, emotion, etc.
