I was listening to Kendrick Lamar's "Black Friday" and there is this line:

"Nothing more influential than rap music."

I started to think over it - is it true or not? And why?
I just googled the phrase "The most influential music genre" and Hip-Hop was all over the place.

So my question is...

In your opinion - What music genre is the most influential? Why?

Hip-hop because it’s one of the few genres that can really impresses lyrically (and other ways of course, but especially lyrically). Plus it’s ART!.
I guess its only a matter of time before it gets recognised as such.

Nonetheless, if I had to respond I would say the genre you listen to the most.

I think he means the fact that it speaks to the youth, especially the black youth. I don't think he means musically. That would be kind of silly seeing as how genres continuously bleed into each other. I guess the most influential stuff would be the earliest by default.

I think rock is more influential. rappers are far more talented though as a whole
