Jan 20, 2015 While it is looking increasingly likely that Hillary will grab the Dem nomination without serious opposition, the GOP race is looking to be even crazier than 2012. Likely Candidates Mitt Romney- Third try is apparently the charm for one of the worst Presidential candidates in modern times as Mitt is already making serious moves towards another run Jeb Bush- A lot of establishment Republicans seem to be liking Bush, despite the fact that I don't see how the optics of a Clinton vs Bush race favors them Mike Huckabee- Quit his FOX show, put out a book, saying stupid racist things that will help him in the GOP primary Rick Perry- Apparently becoming a national embarassment once wasn't enough for him Bobby Jindal- Making moves, has zero chance Rick Sanotorum- Looks like he's going to make another run at it Rand Paul- What would a GOP primary be without a lunatic named Paul? Marco Rubio- Been running since forever Ted Cruz- Another lunatic who thinks he's qualified Scott Walker- Republicans were with him when he was running in Wisconsin, but it will be fun to see other Republicans get a hold of his record of failure and corruption once he's their opponent Ben Carson- Another lunatic who has no chance, prone to saying some really stupid s--- Chris Christie- Less likely to run now that Bush and Romney both appear to be in the game, not much room for another Governor pretending to be a moderate Who am I missing? How do you see it playing out? Do any of them have a chance against Hillary? Latest pol shows Jeb Bush the closest, but behind her by double digits and her above 50%
Jan 20, 2015 As for my view on how things are likely to play out, there are a few factors at play: 1. the Republican habit of handing off to the next guy in line is a bit muddled here. Paul Ryan, the last VP nominee is not running. Rick Santorum, the guy who essentially came in second last time around is not a very credible candidate. Does Mitt get the "next in line" because he never left being first in line last time? Does Jeb get it the same way that W Bush got it by virtue of his dad being President? 2. I think we are likely to see a similar dynamic to 2012 where the clown car is so full of batshit insane people that the anti-establishment tea party types are likely to cast about for the person stupid enough to represent them and split their field while the establishment pick rallies their base of support among the fractured field, leading to a less Tea-Party style candidate, but one who is damaged for the general election by the right wing positions they had to take to survive the onslaught of crazy the others will be lining up 3. The establishment candidate is harder to suss out regardless of the "next in line" thing. Romney is already a twice proven loser, Bush has some serious issues with the base on immigration, Christie and Walker both have issues with their state economies and corruption issues. Hard to see the money getting behind Jindal or Rubio, either.
Jan 20, 2015 Definitely voting 3rd party regardless. Done with the false dichotomy. Glad Perry is running again. Need more classic moments like this one: Election Years make late night shows watchable and Daily Show that much better.
Jan 20, 2015 Pretty much a real dichotomy. Like it or not, you are wasting your vote. It is going to take election reform for a third party to ever be credible
Jan 22, 2015 The hate is real lol. Jesus man. Do you really want Hililary in office next? Honestly though, I don't really like Jeb Bush (the Bush family is very corrupt) so I don't know who I would even vote for yet.
Jan 22, 2015 I'd rather my vote be "wasted" backing people I actually agree with than a submission to a failed two party system. Money doesn't care which side of the room is in charge anyway.
Jan 22, 2015 I'm 20. Voted for Obama both terms. The whole "lesser of two evils" thing. I've lived through a republican and democratic presidency and have seen very little difference. I'll definitely be looking to see who picks up some steam as we get deeper into the cycle.
Jan 22, 2015 obama's first term was so bad that after he beat hillary I wanted almost anyone. but I wanted sarah less
Jan 22, 2015 this makes no sense on account of Obama had no "first term" when he was running against McCain and Palin
Jan 22, 2015 but either way, csws stupidity is off topic here, unless he has something stupid to say about the 2016 primary race
Jan 22, 2015 I only voted in the second, but I was a member of the Young Democrats Club during his first election. Sorry for the confusion. That's as long as I've been "politically active" so I can't speak on who I had sided with previously.
