You know, I'm kinda tired of reading this. Why would anyone expect this? I'm glad for you that you like it, and Lynch is lucky for having fans like you, but that s--- wasn't anything expectable. I'm a big Lynch fan, not only a TP fan, and I believe he never, ever got this pretentious and pseudo-arty, not even in Mullholand Drive / Eraserhead / Inland Empire. He really is turning into a parody of himself sometimes, and that saddens me. Again, just my opinion obviously.
Btw, putting the genesis of Bob/the Black Lodge in 1945 is totally inconsistent with what we've learned about them with Hawk and Windom in s02

So he's not allowed to experiment and express himself because you have a faux idea of what cinema is supposed to be and anything that falls outside of that is immediately labeled as "pseudo-art or pretentious?" You sound like a clown trying to tell another man how to make his art. Just like all the people who try to say Malick has "turned into a parody of himself" just because an artist is finally at a level in their career where they feel comfortable and safe going further than they ever have before with their vision. Lynch is a wise 70-something year old man who has more creativity within him than you could ever hope to achieve and has accomplished more in art and life than almost anyone alive. I'm tired of clowns who know nothing about the vast expression of film try to make statements on how far an artist is allowed to go with his vision. You being angry at a filmmaker and feeling entitled to his art is genuinely one of the worst and most baffling stances to have, no one owes you s--- lmao.

    lol

Never said Lynch shouldn't express himself that way or anything, and I didn't insult you in any way, why are you being so agressive? Can't handle another point of view? I'm allowed to dislike something Lynch made, and to say so...

yeah, because like I said, it saddens me that he chose this way to continue Twin Peaks. Never said "f--- you vahn" or "Lynch had no right to do this" or anything. Read my post again: my main point was that "lol wtf did you expect" isn't a valid point to make to defend Season 3 in my opinion, because Lynch's previous work (even Mullholand Drive or Inland Empire) was very different from what we see every sunday night.

I won't answer to the other stuff you said because a. you seem to stan Lynch so bad that you can't have a calm conversation about this season's flaws, which is a shame, and b. my english is too bad for this

It's not even that I stan Lynch or that you don't like the show, it's that my biggest pet peeve is when non-artists try to make claims like "he's becoming a parody of himself" or "this is pseudo-artsy and pretentious" because it then goes beyond stating an opinion, you are then taking an authoritative stance and discrediting and artist just because their vision doesn't fall in line with your superficial outlines of what film should and could be. I never really care about what people think, I usually get excited when I see people getting triggered by art like this but it's all about how one chooses to word their stance and when you start using irritating words and labels like the ones you have, I feel the need to say something because it's just funny how people feel that they have some authority over artistic expression.

You sound like the authoritarian one when you speak about art here though! I admit I'm sad and kind of a butthurt TP stan, but I can discuss this season. You still didn't answer to the point I made about the incoherence this episode may have created in TP's chronology (Hawk's ancestors knowing the Lodges...).

Plus I do like the show. Episode 7 was especially great.

edit: oh, and what would it change if I happened to be an artist? Why would an artist have the right to criticize Lynch, while a "non-artist" can't?

My point with the non-artist statement was that only people who don't really know or live art make statements like that; claiming people, especially an established creative genius like Lynch, are pretentious and parodies of themselves, anyone who makes art or respects it wouldn't use phrases like that to try and diminish it. If me believing that film and art is a free expression that shouldn't be subjected to empty words like the ones you're using then so be it lol.

As for your question about the continuity from season 2, I honestly don't even remember what you're referencing so I can't speak on it but in all fairness, Lynch wasn't as involved in season 2 and it seems that with this new show he's mostly building on ideas he formed in Fire Walk with Me rather than the TV show other than the world and the characters that inhibit it. All I know is that this week's episode was probably the best thing Lynch has ever done, so to each his own but don't come in here trying to downplay this stroke of genius and say that anyone who likes it is too much of a Lynch stan to criticize him.

Once again, you misread my posts. I said you may stan Lynch too hard regarding your difficulties to discuss the season without being aggressive, it has little to do with liking or disliking the season, really.

    I disagree.
Lynch was heavily involved with season 2 up until its ninth episode, and he wrote and directed the final episode.
"The world and the characters that inhibit it", that's a lot of things, don't you think? There's also the concepts of Doppelgangers, Lodges... Philip Jeffries and the ring are the two main ideas in season 3 that come from FWWM / The Missing Pieces. FWMM was the prequel/sequel to the series, and The Return is a sequel to both.
Have you read Frost's The Secret History of Twin Peaks? I'm just surprised that the new Bob genesis explained in episode 8 kinda contradicts Frost's (and Lynch's...) previous explanations and hints.

It is a lot of things but I don't think he needs to be confined to whatever the show was in the early 90s, I'm not even sure anything is being contradicted here as I haven't read that book and I can't recall what you're referencing in season 2; to me, the sequence felt like a very natural and fitting depiction of the creation of evil. You have to understand that I'm not taking issue with you having problems with or disliking certain aspects of this season. I only take issue with how you're presenting your stance and you seeming like you think that you are smarter or know better than the creator of the work himself.

If you don't like it, there are other ways to get your point across without saying things like "f--- David Lynch", "pseudo-artsy and pretentious" and "self parody." You automatically paint yourself as someone I have no interest discussing art with because those are the same sorts of shots that are sent at Terrence Malick and any other daring visionary working today.

funniest thing about this post is that the film's you mentioned often get criticized for the very same thing you're talking about. Inland Empire especially. Now something transcends your sensibilities and all of the sudden it's a bad thing?

If I had a dollar for every time I heard an "art" director was parodying himself, I'd have enough for my own movie at this point

... which is why I picked them? Obviously Blue Velvet/Elephant Man wouldn't have made sense as examples. Don't see your point tbh
But sorry for annoying you all, won't discuss TP here in the future. Again, good for you that you liked episode 8
