Sep 19, 2017 I feel this a very true statement. Much of it is that much of Eminem's material is very immature & its why he has so many younger fans even at 45. The older I have got I have realised even his best material is overated & not classic material like I previously thought. SSLP,MMLP & TES are still good albums but all 3 have not aged well at all. Your thoughts Stanleys?
Sep 19, 2017 Idk, sometimes I go back and relisten to his first three albums and still feel they are great. However everyone has certain taste of music and it keeps on changing with time. Maybe you grew out of your Eminem phase, but him being overrated is just an opinion
Sep 19, 2017 Is he overrated? Let me see... His first album "Infinite" was something mediocre, I mean as long as rapping at that time (1996) was concerned. He was able to sell just a few thousand copies. But that was just a mild holler to hiphop/rap fans. Then came "The Slim Shady LP" in 1999. The album managed to sell around 3,00,000 copies at that time, and gained him number 2spot on Billboard top 200, and Triple Platinum. People say he recorded the tracks under the influence of drugs, but the techniques and his rapping skills that he displayed in that album were no less than sheer brilliance. If u want to u can listen to any, and I mean any, of his songs from this album and I bet u won't go home disappointed. (and laugh your a--- off if you're high) Then came Marshall Mathers LP (which is his original name btw) in 2000, which gave us hits like "The Real Slim Shady" and "The Way I Am". Although those were really good lyrics, my personal favorite is "Stan". Some sterling rhymes and deep meaning raps made him more famous. By famous I mean he went to the top of the list of the rappers. 1.76 million copies in a week!! Not to mention, he was successfully managing his production company "Shady Records", and also he brought his rap group "D12" in the limelight by recording an album in 2001. Anyway then in 2002 came his fourth studio album. "The Eminem Show" in which he showed his humor ("Without Me", "Superman"), his dark side ("Cleaning Out My Closet"), his angry side (again" Cleaning Out My Closet", "Till I Collapse", "Sing For The Moment"). He managed to sell around 7.6 million copies worldwide, win a Grammy in 2003 for "Album Of The Year", and third consecutive "Best Rap Album Of The Year" award, making him famous worldwide. Then came "Encore", in 2004, his fifth Studio Album, and fourth consecutive album to top the Billboard charts. The album gave hits like "Like Toy Soldiers", "a--- Like That" and "Just Lose It". It went off fairly when it came to sell copies, which managed to sell 5 million copies in the United States. He became a lot famous after that, especially after his collaboration with Akon in "Smack That", which gave him way to then arising Pop culture. He released a few albums in between which weren't much success as compared to those of the previous ones. It's a pity he is best known for his albums after his rehab. ie; "The Relapse", "Recovery", "The Marshall Mathers LP2" where he started to gain the popularity of being a Rap God, when his best works were before his rehab. I think he is considered to be overrated because people think that he raps at a supersonic speed, whereas he should be remembered for his rhyming, humor, vocabulary and splendid raping skills. So the bottom line is, he isn't overrated for obvious reasons. But rating some artist on the basis of his current life, and forgetting about his glorious past and making him God isn't what they look for. Eminem is much more than that. ) He is not just a rap God. He is the "RAP"
Sep 19, 2017 Very overrated. No other artist who's still alive and isn't retired could be mediocre to terrible for 15 years and still be a regular in the GOAT conversations.
Sep 19, 2017 Immature yeah, but immature does not mean overrated. He's brilliantly immature, and then hits you with a serious song. The song 8 Mile blows everyone out of the water and it's a normal song free of shock value. Immature Eminem is still better than your mature favorite rapper.
Sep 19, 2017 he has been way too inactive for a very long time, that's completely unjustified. So yea right now, not having contributed for many years, he is overrated
Sep 19, 2017 If he was black. He wouldn't be in the conversation. Being one of the only good white rappers in his era & crossing over to Pop made him very overated. Still has some great songs & good albums but no classics to have him anywhere near one of the best hip hop artists ever.
Sep 19, 2017 If Eminem was black he would be considered the greatest ever, without anyone ever second guessing it.
Sep 19, 2017 He wouldn't. Record sales are what has Eminem overated. If he was black he records would be halved at least. He has released 3 good albums - SSLP,MMLP, TES 3 Terrible Albums - Encore,Relapse & MMLP2 1 average album - Recovery His next album will most likely be in the terrible category. No way he should be considered one of the GOATs.
Sep 19, 2017 He should be considered as the GOAT because of his skill, talent, creativity, rhymes and flows, all combined into one person. He's rap personified. He can release a lackluster album, but the talent and potential is still there. When he shines, he outshines everyone. And Relapse belongs in a "1 masterpiece/out of this world album".
Sep 19, 2017 you lost me when you put Relapse under the terrible tier and therefore your opinion is irrelevant
Sep 19, 2017 He’s the goat according to many fans - and fellow rappers - for a reason Put some respek on his name
