i think that it's fair/necessary to target someone who is one of the biggest artists in the world and is only continuing to get bigger (and, it should be mentioned, is enjoying some mainstream critics succumbing to him).

i sort of think pointing out that other artists are "problematic" is a non sequitur. the problem with post isn't primarily that he's ~offensive~ or anything in the content of his music, it's that he's creatively bankrupt and minstrel-adjacent in the broadest terms

No, I get all that, but there are moments in the article where he points specifically to stuff like sexist lyrics that would never be sticking points when it comes to guys like Boosie or Future. Ever.

The author compliments G-Eazy in the same article.

G-Eazy better not get too famous or bloggers will riot.

...for dropping out of an ad campaign

also, while g-eazy's music is...you know...bad, he's a bay kid who's obsessed with bay rap and puts on for it every chance he gets. post has the exact opposite attitude toward hip-hop.

So if Post Malone had the H&M deal and backed out, all musical sins would be forgiven? My point is, you could find & replace "Post Malone" for "G-Eazy" and this article would still make sense.

If Post Malone didn't exist, this article would have still been written about the next non-deserving popular artist

Post is barely 23 and has been known worldwide since he was 20. Why such high expectations? I don't understand the point of this article other than "Post Malone is white and makes EXTREMELY POPULAR meaningless pop rap, f--- him!"

no, it wouldn't, because virtually none of the criticisms of post's attitudes toward rap apply to g-eazy, and the musical ones don't have much in common either
criticism has always mattered. this accurately describes one of the biggest stars of an era

I mean I'm not really a huge Post fan but the writer of this article seems like he'd be a fun time at parties

article is good and i agree with most of it but personally i don't take post's music that serious. he has a few hits that i enjoy but dude nothing special. i think the biggest problem with him which was touched on is how he chooses to undermine rap all while getting rich off of it.

Amazing read but they went a bit easy on him.
