Nov 15, 2024 I didn’t think of this before but I think now that The Weeknd character is getting killed off Abel is going to go into full sellout mode. This s--- with Apple is probably only the beginning.
Nov 16, 2024 I don't fully understand when Abel describes The Weeknd as a character, not meant to represent him, himself. when he talked about Trilogy, he did always say the lyrics were a reflection of his real life experiences, so for the most part I always took "The Weeknd" to be just a stage name. If it's just a persona he's putting on, how different would the persona be if he just continued making music with his real name? this is the farthest he's gone with Apple promos, but he has done some in the past. there were these Apple music commercials he did during the Beauty Madness era, right when he started taking off into superstardom, and these commercials even tied into The Hills music video with Em:
Nov 16, 2024 I’m honestly not sure. This alter-ego isn’t something as clear-cut as someone like Slim Shady. At this point what I could see happening is that his music becomes watered down and more family friendly once he drops The Weeknd name so he’s able to get more of these sponsorships. We’ve kind of already been seeing hints of that since After Hours. I hope I’m wrong though. d---, I didn’t know that. Thanks! Maybe I was overreacting a bit with the sellout comments then. This time around is still pretty egregious though.
Nov 17, 2024 Oh here’s a s-----y recording of the music video by the way The song felt like run of the mill 80s Weeknd at first but it grew on me throughout and is good. This music video is probably the best one to come out of this album rollout so far, it’s a shame it has to be viewed this way right now.
Nov 18, 2024 I took my wife to the Apple store just to experience this. and I gotta say, it's awesome and definitely worth the experience. and I get that this was another marketing deal that Abel did with Apple (or just part of the same deal that came with the DITF video with iPhone 16), but I didn't love it enough to drop 4K on a Vision pro. it got me to go and check it out, though. and that's it.
