    BB S5 > TW S4 > BB S4 > TW S1 > TW S3 > BB S3 > TW S2 > BB S1 > BB S2 > TW S5

A lot of this is interchangeable/Im not even sure of this ranking. But yeah. Both are two of the greatest shows of all time.

Totally agree about season 2. Even though I still might think it's the weakest season, I appreciated it a lot more my second time watching it. There's so much being set up with Prop Joe and s--- that you don't notice the first time through because you don't know what happens yet.

Most of the hate comes from the whole McNulty/serial killer storyline, I think (and how he turned back into an alcoholic a------ after it seemed like he conquered his demons in S4). It is a tiny bit jarring considering how much The Wire stuck to hyperrealism before that, but the rest of the season is great in my opinion. Marlo vs. Omar is one of the best parts of the whole series, not to mention how perfect the finale is.

I think the McNulty/serial killer thing is definitely a bit hokey, but it works because we get to see how much horrible s--- is happening with the war on drugs/g--- violence, and yet what the media cares about most is a story that's 100% fabricated.

Deadwood is/was better than both of these shows.. but doesn't get any recognition from people here.

I don't even think the serial killer thing is hoaky.
Look how many news outlets get duped into believing celebrities have died by hoaxes every year. Celebrities have millions of fans and dozens of people around them... So easy to get confirmation if they are alive or not. The news could say ten homeless dudes got murdered last night in your city and how would you know if it was bs or not?

If you want hoaky... Look at the entire premise of Dexter.

I can't believe I spent most of the 2000's arguing with people about how much more intriguing The Wire is compared to Dexter.

Deadwood is one of the cases that brought my genius idea of Yahoo just launching a network of shows that never got a chance to finish their run on networks/basic/premium cable/other internet outlets.

They already started it with picking up Community... But, they could do it for so many others... Each show with an already built audience thankful and clamoring for closure.

Honestly would be the easiest network to run... All the casts and crews would already be assembled and the fact of the matter most times the episodes would have already been written on some other network's dime.

I watched exactly half of Deadwood a few years back. I don't think I would call it better than BB/The Wire from what I saw, but it was definitely fantastic. Been meaning to rewatch it and finish it.

The Wire mainly because it's more realistic and had a greater cultural impact.

Ehhh there's only three seasons and HBO cut the balls of it before its full potential was realized.

Calling it the best show ever (or at least better than Wire & Breaking Bad) seems kind of ridiculous when you look at what those two shows were able to accomplish after five seasons. No doubt in my mind that Deadwood would be in that discussion had it gone on though.

Great points.. I just really enjoyed Dead Wood more than the latter. There was talk in making two, 2 hour films to close the show out..hopefully they still do it.
