Mar 6, 2017 Deffinently deserving. It came out 78 years ago and people still talk about it. That says everything.
Mar 6, 2017 Does it though? People still talk about the plague Apart from the incredible fact that there was no computer effects used (that I know of) for it's time, if you watch the movie now based on the plot and acting, how do you feel about it? Is most of this praise just because the movie was technically way ahead of it's time? For the record I love the movie but idk if it's just nostalgia or what
Mar 6, 2017 I think it was simply a movie ahead of its time. And as far as the acting goes, it was just different back then. For the time frame that it came out it was probably considered as great acting.
Mar 6, 2017 i think its cuz it changed the whole s--- up visually. back then every1 was puttin out primitive oldschool trash & boom Wizard of Oz comes out with nxt lvl s---. aged liked wine in an era where everything else aged like hot dog buns
Mar 6, 2017 When watching a film, context plays an important role. The Wizard of Oz being a 1939 movie is what makes it THAT good... whereas if we place it in a 2017 context it is pure crap if you ask me. So yeah, the fact that it was ahead of time makes it good... doubt it is nostalgia, since people who premiered the movie are too old to access rotten-tomatoes or dead.
Mar 6, 2017 It's def iconic for what it is, but I haven't seen it in ages so I can't say for sure what my feelings on it would be now, doubt I'd have anything negative to say.
Mar 6, 2017 Amazing movie, especially considering it came out in the 30s as someone mentioned. Holds up incredibly well, tho admittedlt havent seen it since college (when that pink floyd rumor was popular)
Mar 6, 2017 I know im not the only one that still can't watch that film because I had literal nightmares of this b---- as a kid
Mar 6, 2017 Havent seen it in years but ththe nostalgia I get just thinking about it confirms what a great movie it is
Mar 6, 2017 But later finding out that the cast treated Judy Garland like s--- and wouldnt talk to her off camera drops the movie down just a bit in my eyes
Mar 6, 2017 Of course it deserves the praise. Its like 78 years old and people still watch it and talk about it what other 78 year old movie do I watch? I mean is it my favorite or anything no...but the fact that I and probably many others have taken the time to watch it prob several times with it being as old as it is as well as reference it in life a fair share of times says something
Mar 6, 2017 Exactly. She had a rough life in general, eventually overdosed. Hearing she was an outcast during that movie takes some of the magic away
