Jun 29, 2015 One of the few pop punk bands that have their own sound, for better or worse. Could be worse just because shittier bands then try to copy, with hilariously awful results.
Jun 29, 2015 Yeah I'm not a huge fan of most of the newer pop punk bands. I do like State Champs, Neck Deep, and Knuckle Puck however
Jun 30, 2015 I think the only other pop punk band these days I've been interested in is Fireworks. And I actually like them considerably better than The Wonder Years. Anyway, that was a solid track.
Jun 30, 2015 Well, they have three albums and they've recently gone on hiatus, so it might be their only three. I'd listen to all of them, starting from the beginning. They have a pretty neat evolution to be honest. Just to give you a little bit of what I mean, here's the first track to each of their albums. In order of course, from first to third album, just in case you're wondering which one is which. They're all quite different. Their first album is pretty much the epitome of pop punk. Their second album has a bit more summery indie flare to it. Their last album is a bit darker in comparison, both musically and lyrically.
Sep 6, 2015 I don't like Fireworks but I had stumbled on a tWY song a few months ago and I liked it, thanks for the reminder for the album.
Sep 6, 2015 Yea, no problem. Album seems to be a bit divisive among fans. Personally, I think it's probably their most lyrically dense and musically experimental. If it's not a great album, it's at the very least fascinating.
Sep 6, 2015 I don't like it as much as The Greatest Generation, but I've only gotten the chance to listen all the way through once. Hopefully with more listens it will grow on me Can't wait for the new State Champs album though. Also the new Neck Deep album is really really good
Sep 6, 2015 ... I f----- up, I was thinking about a pop duo called Oh Wonder who also released their (debut) album on sept. 4. I'll check out some of the songs posted here though
Sep 6, 2015 Lol. You dun goofed Peter. Seems like this is the album fans won't be able to agree on. Every band has one. The new Neck Deep album is probably nostalgic for a lot of people. Sounds pretty old school, but it's run of the mill regardless. Not the biggest fan of State Champs either. Pop-punk as a genre has never been all that diverse but it's probably why bands like The Wonder Years and Fireworks really stand out.
Sep 6, 2015 State Champs to me is what All Time Low should sound like. And yeah I really dig the Neck Deep album because it reminds me of late 90's, early 2000's pop punk
Sep 6, 2015 Speaking of Neck Deep, didn't their lead guitarist leave the band because he was accused of sexual harassment or something? Crazy. I find it weird that State Champs has a pretty solid fanbase. But I try not to give them too much s---. There are worse bands that have similar sized fanbases. Most notably Real Friends and Transit. To be honest, most of the "emo" stuff I listen to are usually post-rock or post-hardcore influenced. They tend to be much more musically diverse(the former more so than the latter). Pop-punk is good in small doses though, especially when it's done well. Speaking of, I found a band about a week or two ago called Wander. They released their self titled album last year. I gave it a listen and was pleasantly surprised. Check it out. I recommend it.
