Apr 27, 2017 Personally I don't see the appeal in watchin youtube reviews let alone ones that go for like 20 mins. You can either listen to half the album in that time and make up your own mind and if you've already heard the album why the f--- you watchin a review vid I'm just talkin in general not at you or anythin btw
Apr 27, 2017 I can't speak for everybody, but I'm subscribed to Fantano just because he shines light on some music I might not have heard otherwise. I don't worship his opinion or anything. I like tons of stuff that he doesn't and vice versa. I'm not looking for somebody to tell me what to think. I'm looking for somebody to tell me what they think so I can further ask questions and engage with the music. It's not much different than reading posts here about what people think of an album.
Apr 27, 2017 i still don't get why this is such a controversial thing when it's a pretty good descriptor and instantly lets u know what kind of hip hop you're about to get into
Apr 27, 2017 Cuz it's a blanket term/generalization used by people who don't listen to rap/dustheads to disparage modern day southern rap.
Apr 27, 2017 not rly there's a very big distinction in terms of style and sound between something that would be considered mumble rap and something that wouldn't
Apr 27, 2017 i can only speak for myself, but i think people watch them to get other peoples viewpoints/thoughts on the album(s) i watch them from time to time, but i don't put much stock into the rating an album receives.
Apr 27, 2017 "Mumble rap" is an inherently negative term though and it pools together artists as diverse 21 Savage, Young Thug, and Kodak Black. Doesn't make sense and is mostly used by people who haven't listened to enough modern souther rap to judge.
Apr 27, 2017 irrelevant tho it's still an accurate descriptor and it's nice to have labels so ppl know wtf they're getting into when they look for new music and?
Apr 27, 2017 Are you serious? It's not irrelevant and it's not accurate because it boils down a bunch of diverse artist into one negative attribute that isn't even true for all of these artists. It would be like if I called all electronic music "bleep bloop robot music". It's a negative and inaccurate generalization would show a lack of understanding of the genre. Are there a bunch of Atlanta rappers that sound the same and ride off of what's popular? Yes, but there are cheap imitators in every genre.
Apr 27, 2017 r u really gonna sit there and act like it doesn't sound like rappers like thug and future are mumbling then? cause lol @ that
Apr 27, 2017 Where does the term come from? I mean I kinda get it they are sometimes hard to understand but u have to get used to that (or, choose not to listen to them anymore)
Apr 27, 2017 You're missing the point and not responding to what I'm actually saying. Are you really gonna sit there and act like electronic music isn't all just s-----y robot noises? Are Future and thug harder to understand than someone like Joey Badass? Yes. But Future and thug aren't hard to understand at all 95% of the time once you've started actually delving into their discography. Characterizing them as "mumble rap" shows that you've barely skimmed the surface and an extreme lack of familiarity and understanding of mid-late 2010s rap.
Apr 27, 2017 no one else has trouble understanding it but u also like yelawolf. the only people who use the term are the ones who just don't understand it.
