and I don't see how you can disagree. You called it a critic bait album because of its deep content. Yet 99% of the critics gave it a very high score for 2 reasons:

    - the music (and they gave most of the praise to the musicians who worked on it)
    - the subject matter, it had nothing to do with Kendrick's lyrical abilities, they praised it because this album was basically the soundtrack of what happened to a lot of black people in 2015. Like rolling stones said, this album was the soundtrack of the year 2015.

    pretty much this

some critics mentioned the concept, but they never praised the album for its concept lol, it was all about the musical ambition.

you know the haters have no real argument when they say an artist was trying to impress critics with great music

Yes, it is a soundtrack type album that many people can relate to

But here's the thing - because of that, they're blind to how 75% of the songs are not enjoyable to listen to in any capacity

Not enjoyable to who? to you?

because it's the album I've enjoeyd the most these last few years. There's nothing wrong with making an album for a different audience (an audience who mainly listen to jazz and funk music)

I legit don't even give a f--- about TPAB's message. It's one of my favorite albums of all time because of the music.

    Kamasi Washington.
    Terrace Martin.
    Robert Glasper.
    Thundercat.
    Ambrose Akinmusire.

TPAB is oozing with BLACK musical excellence.

I mean, it might've been a dope album if it was straight Hip-Hop but once they dipped into the ideas black musicians have helped to pioneer over the past 100 years... s--- was over at that point

    This.

My least favorite tracks on tpab are literally the traditional hip hop records: the blacker the berry, alright.

It's ok not to enjoy the genres that have influenced tpab, but don't say it's not enjoyable just because you don't like them lol.

I wouldn't be fair for a fan of hardrock to say that ALL the rap albums are boring just because he doesn't like rap music.

Most of the people who complain have the same common complaint - the project lacks replay value

I'll give you - Wesley's Theory, King Kunta, These Walls, and Mortal Man as tracks I really enjoy from this

But the rest? The way that it was crafted, I don't have any yearning to revisit them individually

If we're talking about whether it's a great concept album, I completely agree with you. Probably even feel stronger

But my stance is this - Kendrick made an OUTSTANDING straight through listen conceptual project at the cost of the songs losing their individuality

I don't want to sound cliche, but the jazz & funk communities are enjoying this album a lot, and none of them complaining about the replay value.

As far as I'm concerned, this is one of my most played albums in a very long time. Like I said, this album was for another audience, But the reason it was universally acclaimed is because it's really great, to the point where publications of other genres were forced to praise it as well (it wouldn't have made sense to pan it if the album was great, from a pure objective standpoint).
Like you can say "I don't like jazz or funk music", But you have no right to call it boring or bad just because you don't like these genres. If the album is great then its great.

The way I see it michael scott... it might just be you not being familiar with this sound. So why don't you say the problem is coming from you?

are you familiar with funkadelic? Do you like p-funk (not talking about g-funk here).. do you even like jazz music?

if you're into bangers and all that s--- then you're most likely not going to enjoy jazz music, but it doesn't mean this kind of music lacks replay value, it just means that it is not for you.

    I like jazz

But at the end of the day, it comes to different communities liking different things

I don't like trap music, I don't like rock music but I'm never gonna spam the music section with bs threads like "chief keef's music lacks replay value". I'm not too big on that s--- so ofc its not gonna have any replay value for me
