Apr 7, 2016 S/O @Charlie for forcing me to revisit this after calling it a flop. You guys know the backstory. 2 of the hottest rappers of 2015 combined to drop a surprise collab project. Overwhelming opinion on SXN80 was that WATTBA was a disappointment (I think I may have even voted it most disappointing album of the year in the SXN80 awards). After the initial sting wore off, the project started to grow on me and I found myself listening to it more and more. I'm sure a majority of people (myself included) expected Drake & Future to trade bars for 11 tracks, similar to braggadocio raps both had dominated the year with. Instead, we got a combination of the style's that had made them so popular in the first place. In the time since WATTBA dropped, there's been criticism that Drake & Future have gotten monotone, but joints like Diamonds Dancing, Scholarships, Plastic Bag, and Change Locations showcase that they still can excel with that crossover appeal. I'm not trying to preach this as a great mixtape, I just think it's been severely over-hated/underrated and we should appreciate 2 artists as big as Drake & Future putting this together for us in less than 2 weeks. Share your thoughts on the tape below and if your opinion has changed at all.
Apr 7, 2016 dope af, i love it, in this age u rarely like a album first until u see what the artist was going for - DP
Apr 7, 2016 I like it a lot, tbh if you like both Drake and Future I don't understand how you could dislike it
Apr 7, 2016 It's a solid album. Future kills d--- near every track and is clearly the shinning star given that Metro Boomin' produced a majority of the project and he's in his own element. Drake does a good job of complimenting Future though and meshing with his style/sound. This was one of my most played projects of 2015.
Apr 7, 2016 It's straight but I thought it would be better. I still listen to Digital Dash, Scholarships, Diamonds Dancing, 30 for 30 & Live From the Gutter.
Apr 7, 2016 Yeah when this dropped it was like, oh this sounds like a Future project Drake sucks, but with him going to Metro and trying to make it happen what else did ppl expect? The finished product was mostly pretty good and like you said Drake is a great compliment to Future. The only song I didn't really like was Big Rings.
Apr 7, 2016 future didn't dominate 2015 with "braggadocios raps" tho Change Locations is just Rotation re-purposed. Scholarships and Plastic Bag are alright. DD is overrated. A handful of the best rappers alive, including Future, could make a better project in even less time. Drake brought this project down by trying to work in a setting he isn't used to and co-opt a style that doesnt fit him. Tape's alright. Future is fantastic on multiple cuts. Drake barely hangs on to that point that when he's okay he gets overrated. When he's bad he's awful.
Apr 7, 2016 I'm sick of that metro dude but I like this. Drake and Future did great. Not that special but pretty good
Apr 7, 2016 It's average af but Drake should never try to use futures "style" again. s--- is kinda boring. Some songs on this are good songs but they do sound rushed af and both rappers are painfully average for the most part. Idk mind Futures style but the overabundance of the same s--- makes me hate this project more than I should. Drake needs to make sure he doesnt try to replicate this style at all.
Apr 7, 2016 Change Locations & Rotation sound NOTHING alike. Scholarships, Plastic Bag, and DD are standout tracks, none of which I'd describe as "alright" or "overrated". Name me 1 project better than this made in less time? Barely hanging on? Drake was the highlight of Digital Dash, Plastic Bag, I'm The Plug, and Jumpman, not to mention he basically had half the run time Future did on the entire tape.
