Jul 4, 2016 You called it a "funny one-liner." My point was that, as much as more famous people try to graft him onto their albums for a 'cool' factor, Max has been sentenced to spend his entire life in jail. That's not a one-liner, it's the guiding principle of all my work. Rap is a very real cultural phenomenon that isn't created in a lab or a vacuum. Tons of individual critics and publications writ large group an artist's releases from one year together (see: Future, Thug, bands who do an EP and LP in short order, etc). In this little online content bubble we've had since two years ago, there hasn't been an artist who dropped four equal-focus albums in six months. You haven't batted an eye at me putting SS3 and I'm up together, because we're used to that; what Boosie's doing is unprecedented. In any formal ballots I turn in in December, obviously I'll whittle those down. But for my purposes here (identifying the year's best rap music so far) I stand by having all the Boosie tapes there.
Jul 4, 2016 Not a big rap fan as is and I tend to be to snobby / judge mental about it more than other genres idk why
Jul 4, 2016 my town celebrates the 4th of july on the 3rd.... so i will not be boozing today! gotta drive back to cedar falls anyways. hopefully soon. can't stand living with my parents.
Jul 4, 2016 it actually is the greatest day of the year. we don't have to work today and are able to be hungover all day instead of being hungover at work tomorrow. getting a q before i head back, so i will be celebrating differently with my new bong
Jul 4, 2016 Yeah. Islah is a very good rap album and has some great songs. But Gates has dropped seven LP-length projects since the start of 2012, and this is no higher than fifth, but maybe sixth.
Jul 4, 2016 He means it as an insult, which I'm sorry for, but to be fair the venn diagram of Bas fans fits pretty much entirely within that of J. Cole fans.
Jul 4, 2016 I figured as much. The insult was weak though lol. You know that's not gonna stop me from the music I like to hear.
Jul 4, 2016 Of course not, and it shouldn't. I find Bas very very hard to listen to (http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21416-dreamville-ii-revenge-of-the-dreamers/) but I hope you find enjoyment wherever you can, we've all got different ears.
