    The Shining (1980) (Stanley Kubrick)

Spielberg said he's seen this at least 25 times. I'm going to get there. Endlessly rewatchable. Perfectly constructed.

    Videodrome (1983) (David Cronenberg)
    Videodrome.jpg
Cronenberg's finest work imo. That sweetspot between his early B Movies and the more thoughtful dramas he'd concentrate on further down the line.

    Vagabond (1985) (Agnes Vardes)
    Vagabond.jpg
Ebert summed this s--- up perfectly: "Although many have shared our lives, how many truly know us?" Bonnaire's performance is great as well. It's like a not-coming-of-age movie.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) (John McNaughton)
    HenryKiller.jpg
I feel like I'm one of the few who managed to find sympathy for Henry which made the ending that much more painful.

The Seventh Continent (1989) (Michael Haneke)
    conversationshaneke_5.jpeg
The only movie to appear on my 80s and 90s lists (because I f----- up in the other thread). As Slant Magazine referred to him, Haneke is Zeus-on-depressants and this movie will f--- you up harder than that time you watched Requiem for a Dream back in high school.

Once Upon A Time In America, Raging Bull, Full Metal Jacket, Do The Right Thing, The Empire Strikes Back

80s is a weird era for me because I identify more with the less serious genre films like Coming To America, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Die Hard, Goonies, Indiana Jones Trilogy, Princess Bride, Breakfast Club, Beetlejuice, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Of course, Scarface, Platoon, The King of Comedy are great too.

    1.) Come and See
    2.) The Shining
    3.) Videodrome
    4.) Raging Bull
    5.) Scarface

Need to catch up on a lot. Really bad decade for popular movies, probably the worst.
