People usually find it weird I don't consider BIG a top 10 rapper.

You could argue that, I wouldn't say it's weird. People usually put him higher for his well rounded rapping and influence

Songwriting for MCs considers different criteria as far as I know. Things like storytelling, concepts, rhythmic structure, message, rhyme, and of course technical skill, make for good songwriting. As opposed to the kind of songwriting one might credit Kanye for being good at which is more to do with melody, production, feel, ability to convey emotion.. things like that.

As an MC Eminem is a great songwriter. As a Musician Kanye is a great songwriter.

Influence-wise I think he's really up there. Rapping-wise, I find him pretty average. Not even his flow strikes me as that great - I figure that it's his voice that makes him sound so great. I don't think he used his voice that skillfully though, he just used his voice as is. Lyricism was alright, great sometimes but overall alright.

I would say he was a great lyricist if you really analyze his songs. He has some fantastic rhyme schemes on RTD

I think his stronger side was storytelling. I love his use of imagery on songs such as n----s Bleed. However, when he's just rapping about generic s---, his lyrics are borderline undefendable to me. His rhyme schemes on RTD are alright to me, nothing complex but surely adding to what he's doing. I'd say his rhyme schemes there are just not bad, perhaps good - but I wouldn't give him "great".

Biggie is the best storyteller in the genre...period. Look at the stories he crafted into songs, specifically on Life After Death. Tracks like n----s Bleed, I Got a Story to Tell, etc...

yeah as if I didn't have reasons when someone is telling me that Eminem is better than Jay Z at everything and Jay Z isn't that good

somehow saying Biggie is just an average rapper is even dumber, didn't think it was possible

I personally find Eminem's storytelling on SSLP better, the imagery does more to me. Biggie is pretty up there though, probably second best in storytelling.

Opinions. I find his rhyming average, his flow to be overrated, his voice just okay.

That would insinuate Em is the best though, I put Lupe, Nas, and Biggie infront of Em tbh.
