Exactly. It has no replay value. It was Eminem trying (and failing) to copy Illmatic

I didn't say they need to be "single pieces" to be good. The whole consensus of what an album is, however, has had quite a shift.

No it doesn't. Any project that has It's OK, Never 2 Far, Backstabber, and Jealousy Woes II doesn't s---.

discographies aren't a good way to judge it IMO. if an artist makes a lot of music, naturally, some of it isn't going to be that good.

some of the best musicians of all-time have several average or below average albums in their discography

if eminem put out his relapse-now run first 'back then' when album perception 'hadnt shifted', then he would have never got famous and no one would care about him

Replay value... eh, I can bump it if I'm in the mood. I wouldn't say it's good though because like... what makes it good? I can't think of a reason why it's good. It just sounds passable.

yeah but when you're the one artist who released the most embarrassing album (encore), it should be taken into the equation

Nah, Em has 3 classics, Encore is bad, Relapse and Recovery are great albums (not liking them comes down to personal taste in concepts, content, and soundscape) and MMLP2, while harbouring some really good songs, is meh as album altogether.

But his "back then" albums are also more mixtape-like. They're collections of songs that don't connect with each other.

an album doesnt have to have songs that connect for an album to be good

eminem encore and onward is just bad or mediocre in every measure
