Sorry about your relationship man. I’ve never been anywhere in Central America, but my dad always speaks highly of his trips to Costa Rica.

Naturally the metropolis known as Guadalajara (s/o Thug) has a lot of sightseeing since it's one of the 3 biggest cities in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is secretly the best resort besides Cabo if your looking into that, has an airport so it's accessible. My folks are from this small city named Mazamitla, very tranquil and hidden between mountains/forrests--there's this cool eco-tour that shows around the area. Just stay clear of that place at night unfortunately :emoji_pensive:

Yeah unfortunately a lot of places south of the border I'm looking at I've been advised to avoid wandering by myself at night lol. Though it sounds like Mexico City is pretty diverse and has a lot of foreigners working in the city so I won't really look out of place.

oh yeah, one more thing, how did you get from city to city? I was reading there's an easy bus from Mexico City to Puebla for example, and I assume bussing is probably the most viable option in general for longer distances?

When traveling in dangerous countries only go places people have recommended. That way you don't end up in dodgy off the map places.

Def, it'll be my first time traveling alone out of the country so I've been doing a bunch of research.

Honestly though the murder rate in Mexico City is lower than a bunch of US cities like New Orleans, St. Louis (shouts out @Dew), Detroit, Baltimore. Obvs there will be some sketchy parts like all cities but I think as long as I do my research as to where not to go and don't do dumb s--- at night I'll be fine.

I don’t think it’s typical city crime stuff you’d have to really worry about.

    - I wouldn’t be going to outskirts or more isolated areas and towns. This isn’t The Godfather and you don’t have to be part of the “system” to be targeted. It just takes one chubby little mexican kid talking about the gringo with his fancy laptop he saw at the local cafe for his dumbfuck teenage brother to h--- his cousin about a rich cac in town they can rob only to be overheard by his broke a--- uncle who knows someone who knows someone and by the end of this game of Chinese whispers wannabe Los Zetas grunts think you’re either a narc or a reporter and I’ll be seeing you on bestgore.

    - Avoid the usual flagged states. Just stay in the usual advised white people-friendly places.

    - If you’re getting robbed or mugged do not resist.

    - Don’t drive on highways at night or more isolated highways. If you happen to be driving normally under the limit in a non busy highway and an undercover police car turns on the lights to pull you over, don’t pull over. It’s not the police.

    - As for other Central American countries. Just tick Honduras off your list right now and don’t even think about it.

    - Better yet, don’t even go. There are easier ways to inflict harm on yourself after a breakup.

I bussed most of the way but it depends how far you go. If its gonna be a 2 day bus ride then I'd rather just take a flight. But the busses weren't bad at all, even if some were like 6-8 hours

Yeah that’s what I was reading, if it’s gonna be more than an overnight bus you might as well just fly. I don’t thiiiiink I’m gonna be going any longer than that but I guess I’ll have to see what I end up doing lol

I just applied for a passport and my god that was the easiest government-related thing I've ever had to do. Literally zero people waiting in line in the building. All I needed was my filled out form, my passport from when I was a minor, and my ID/a photocopy of my ID (oh and a check).

Why is everything else so f----- and full of red tape? You'd think they'd be a lot more hoops to jump through for something like this esp compared to f---ing around at the DMV and s---.

Bruh I got asthma, started drinking at age 15, and based upon my gut's history am 100% gonna get montezuma's revenge. if they harvest my organs they're gonna be severely disappointed.
