When my wife and I moved from Wisconsin to Utah, we decided to go south of the Rockies to avoid winter weather, so we headed south through Oklahoma and clipped the northwest corner of Texas before heading west from there.

That northwest corner of Texas was ghost-towny interesting, if that makes sense. It's like "holy s---, people actually live here?" when you drive past some of those trailer parks in the middle of nowhere.

New Mexico doesn't have d-ck and I got my windshield cracked by a rock from driving behind a semi outside of Albuquerque, so f--- that place.

Arizona has its dull stretches where you think you'll get some Hills Have Eyes action if your car ever breaks down, but once you get close to Vegas it gets a little more interesting with its mountains.

I have cousins who live there and love it as well as some other friends (they all went to ASU). Maybe phoenix has gotten better since I last went it was just so much sprawling nothing with zero people on the streets. And it was in november so it wasn't even hot, like 70 degrees.

I work with a lot of "snow birds", they work in Alaska during the summer and fly south in the winter.

The majority of them live in Arizona... where they bought 4,000 sqft McMansions with 7 or 8 summers worth of Alaska cash. They eventually retire and live there for 9 months out of the year instead of six.

Any particular reason you still choose manual?

Real men drive stick. But for real, I don't actually know any country apart from America that is majority automatic. It's actually really weird to think about it!

I ask because I don’t know how much of a car enthusiast he is. Some American cities make driving stick a headache. Just wait til you get jammed up on a freeway.

Always wanted to learn manual though

Yes. The first car I could afford was stick so I had to learn. It was a Toyota Tercel. Such a piece of s--- and I hated manual at first. That car lasted me 4 years and I bought a s-----y automatic afterwards and found it boring. You have more control driving manual and I feel like I pay attention more. It's getting harder to find stick, but I currently have a 2019 VW GLI in manual and love it.

Nice Worm, bet that cost you a bob or two. You can’t beat knocking it into second and absolutely flying round a tight bend.

I definitely agree that manual is superior to the classic autos. But these new 8 and 10 speed autos barely have any shift delay. Heard the GLI is a fun car. What car was the s-----y auto?

Chevy Cavalier...honestly it could have been a brand new car and it would have s----d being automatic. Even though auto has caught up to manual at this point it's still more fun tbh
