People love big and pac like they do because they died when they died. Same thing with Eazy E.

Pac was one of the most influential people to ever hold the mic. That doesn't take away from his average rapping ability
So you are telling me that he is a top 5 rapper of all time? Because that is the general consensus

Of course he is. 7 Day Theory is a top 10 rap album OAT for me...AEOM and MATW are at the top tier of albums...not to mention his numerous other tracks and appearances

Biggie is the best and he only has 3 albums worth of material (a single LP and double LP) because I rank his projects so highly

Im not saying everyone is a huge fan or has to dive into his whole discography. People only know the same 5 great songs because besides his great songs he doesn't have anything else. Just a bunch of mediocre stuff.

And he was big before he died. Just not nearly as big as he is today. And that jump is because of his death and the timing of his death and the east coast vs. west coast (Which he was a false rep about imo)

There are fans who call people GOAT only knowing a handful of tracks of every big name artist

@Xmipod your argument is irrelevant and u still haven't actually commented on Tupac's music

This sound like the generic thing to say cause u see other people have said it and can't form a real opinion yourself

Tupac was a good rapper. Was he a complex beast like Kendrick or Pun? No but to say he didn't have good verses is flat wrong

What you're saying Kanye is overrated now??? With one of the best discogs in hip hop?? Kanye actually IS an average rapper in most categories (flow lyricism etc) it doesn't mean a d--- thing

Easy E isn't as loved as Pac. stop making bad comparisons to make your point. Easy doesn't hava a place as a cemented top 5 (im talking about the generic one) hes just loved by some rap casuals who don't know s---. Pac is loved by both casuals, rap heads and people who dont even like rap. so please stop. yes there are a few people who overrated him because hes dead, but its really not as many as you make it seem. neither pun, L, Easy E and the other million dead rappers have the same amount of fans pac has. in terms of people loving him, stop trying to justify it.

and yet there are plenty of rappers with a lot of skills who sucks and couldn't in their life do what Pac did. his music could touch people, not just rap fans. he was said in interviews in the past that he doesnt make wordplays or metaphors because he wants his music and message to be as direct as possible, and it worked so it's really not an excuse to say he doesn't deserve his status (which btw, can be affected by influence just as much as rap skills) he also proved he can rhyme well a few times. he wasn't some basic rapper lol. he wasn't DOOM level or anything but it just wasn't the type of music he tired to make. and what he did try to make he made perfectly.

    So no he isn't overrated.

Honestly this is the vibe I'm getting from @Xmipod

Like when someone's only argument is Tupac is overrated because he 'wasn't that great at rapping' most of the time the guy fits the description above like 90% of the time I'd say

'Besides his great songs he doesn't have anything else.'

lol to me there's no rapper this is LESS true about than Pac. Some of my favorite songs of his are not his most popular or anywhere near his most popular, then Pac also has a ton of interesting stuff outside his music as well. I mean his movies are good but I'm talking more about his interviews, poetry, activism, etc..

Pac was a very interesting person outside his music as I said, some tend to sleep on that. But even if we are only talking music, he has MUCH more than his '5 great songs and nothing else' or whatever he said.

Yeah Tupac is the most enigmatic and interesting hip hop artist outside of music ever imo. And that translates over to his music and why it is still praised to this day as some of the best across all genres.

But this whole 5 song thing takes the cake...on the contrary I couldn't even list my 5 favorite Tupac tracks because his discog is so consistent off the top of my head 5 don't even stand out, he has so many high quality tracks.

This is so ridiculously ignorant, I don't even know where to start.

Did you just half a--- google Tupac or something? Because, aside from your opinions on his music, most of your arguments are completely wrong.

2Pac had 3 albums before signing to Death Row (which was before the East vs West beef), and he was still one of the most popular rappers in that time frame. LL Cool J, Will Smith, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Dre, Biggie and Kriss Kross (lol) were all huge at that time too.

Granted, Me Against The World is the album that really launched him, his first two albums were still pretty popular, and he was a highly respected artist from those albums.

Plus, Pac was in 3 popular movies- Juice, Poetic Justice and Above The Rim before 1995.

However, yes, when he signed with Death Row, and joined Snoop and Dre? He went into another stratosphere, and this was BEFORE Hit Em Up and BEFORE his death. He released All Eyez On Me, and I'm pretty sure he went diamond before the summer time of that year (memory is fuzzy), I can't remember, but the album was a huge success way before the Biggie beef or his death.

Same thing with anyone saying Biggie is only popular because of his death. Such a dumb and uneducated thing to say. 2Pac and Biggie earned their popularity well before their respected deaths.

Big L (who is a personal favorite of mine) would be someone who became popularized after his death, but DEFINITELY not 2Pac or Biggie.

He was OK but he would not have been as successful as he was if not for his looks and his nose stud.
