Jul 11, 2017 The production is INCREDIBLE! Very pleased with it. I enjoyed Cherry Bomb but I know a lot found it was bleh due to the mixing. This one sounds much more solid, I'll have to listen more but pretty certain I'll rank it higher than Cherry Bomb. I enjoy it much more than Goblin but that's my least favourite project from him. Wolf is great though I think it could have ended at 15 or 16 songs than 18. (Trashwang is garbage to me ad Tamale...meh). The weakest track production wise off first listen is probably Who Dat Boy and that's not even a weak beat. Looking forward to more listens.
Jul 11, 2017 The beginning of Where This Flower Blooms reminds me of a super nintendo adventure game lol. EDIT: Anyone else really enjoy Pothole? Haven't seen much mentions of it....
Jul 11, 2017 I'd say so yes. Here's some reasoning: You could start with his first project b------ which came out in 2009. It's got good production. However, it was apart of a trilogy (Goblin and Wolf) that had a concept of Camp Flog Gnaw. So Tyler, kind of created characters and would do concepts around them and Camp Flog Gnaw. He also used a lot of shock value like r---, kidnap, k--- etc. So the concept is bleh (I don't like Goblin much because it's a bit excessive). If you go with the trilogy I think Wolf is the best one to start with, with b------ afterwards then go to Goblin. Outside of the Trilogy above he has Cherry Bomb and Scum f--- Flower Boy. Cherry Bomb came out rougher with mixing issues. There are some songs you have a hard time hearing Tyler's gritty voice (a signature I'd say) because the production is loud and the vocals are low. But Tyler did this on purpose as the album was to represent the music type he likes. Scum f--- Flower Boy you get his production style and his vocals are great. You hear his gritty voice, he isn't overpowered by the production. You also get a more approach to him as a rapper than the old trilogy of characters, raping, killing etc. TL;DR Version - Trilogy Wise (2009-2013) Start with Wolf then b------, could try Goblin. It's shock value. Production is good though Post Trilogy - Scum f--- Flower Boy - Production is excellent, vocals are in tune. Cherry Bomb is good but vocals can be overpowered by the beats. 1 song sample from each project (aside from new album) for an idea.... btw this post is MUCH more longer than I expected to make it lol. b------ - Odd Toddlers Goblin - Transylvania Wolf - Jamba Cherry Bomb - Buffalo Smuckers (this track everyone liked off Cherry Bomb as Wayne and Kanye k--- it)
Jul 11, 2017 All good man! I like his production style. Mostly the reason I kind of paid attention to OF artists (Earl as well who has become really great and has also branched out of the r--- killing etc style from his mixtape Earl). I didn't really like the whole shock value portion of it before. I'm glad he's branched out from it because he makes some pretty good beats that bring different sounds into them. I tried getting my friend into him and Vince Staples but he didn't enjoy either Big Fish Theory or Scum f--- Flower Boy so idk lol.
Jul 11, 2017 I had 911/Call Me playing in the background, was crying my own tears as I typed it bahahaha jk.
Jul 11, 2017 I'm not saying you're wrong I don't know too much about the storyline thing but the cover of SFFB has his full name on it not 'tyler the creator', so maybe he's done with all that just a thought
Jul 11, 2017 That could be true. Earl does go under the name randomblackdude when he produces his own tracks. I think Tyler started out as Ace The Creator at first, but then switched it to Tyler, The Creator. I don't know the whole Camp storyline, I know hardcore fans know it all and s--- I kind of got lost didn't pay attention. I think it actually goes b------, Wolf Goblin? Or maybe Wolf, b------, Goblin in terms of the actual storyline because on Goblin he does Spoiler end up killing all of his friends on the track "Window" . I didn't even know who Tyler or OFWGKTA was until their OF Mixtape Vol. 2 came out. The beats on it were different so started checking them out. EDIT: Also Odd Future did have Frank Ocean in it as well
Jul 12, 2017 im not sure, i thought so too until i read this article (https://noisey.vice.com/en_ca/artic...tyler-the-creator-crafted-on-the-wolf-trilogy)
Jul 12, 2017 that trilogy is a triple feature that plays in moon theatre which is in cherry bomb so it is kinda part of it its just like extra context as far as i can tell flowerboy is totally removed tho but he talks about it in who dat boy
