Mar 20, 2015 Universal is moving forward with its Scarface remake and has tapped Straight Outta Compton writer Jonathan Herman to do the rewrite. Paul Attanasio and David Ayer wrote previous drafts of the film, which will be a new and original take on the immigrant story, which spawned films in 1932 and 1983. The 1983 version, which was released by Universal, tells the story of Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino) who arrives in 1980s Miami with nothing and rises up to become a powerful drug kingpin. That film made the expression, “Say hello to my little friend,” one of the most iconic lines in cinema. The new film will be set in Los Angeles and explore an immigrant’s rise in the criminal underworld. … Pablo Larraín will direct. http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/19/entertainment/feat-scarface-remake-thr/ Not sure how I feel about this.
Mar 20, 2015 Hmmmmm A big movie studio doing a remake of a movie that DOESN'T NEED ONE. No suprise there.
Mar 20, 2015 You mean just like the famous 80s remake? You're all forgetting that a needless Scarface remake is exactly what the last one was. I can see Universal's POV
Mar 20, 2015 The 80's remake had a purpose though. They had better movie technology and could do a remake in color. Plus I'm sure Al Pacino did a better job than the guy from the 1932 version. In my eyes this remake serves no purpose.
Mar 20, 2015 So you prefer the 1932 version? The 80's "remake" is a classic and doesn't need a remake.
Mar 20, 2015 80s version is classic don't get me wrong I'm js it's funny that y'all are hating on remakes when the best one was the remake
Mar 20, 2015 I get what you're saying...but Scarface was a good 50 years after the original (which was pretty obscure and mostly forgotten about by then). It's only been like 30 years, I just don't get why they gotta slap the "scarface" title on it because it will just create unreasonable hate and expectations for it. If they have a good plot for a gangster flick why not make it it's own thing?
Mar 20, 2015 Gonna be a let down. No way it could live up to the hype it will undoubtedly receive. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't watch it though.
Mar 20, 2015 They could combine it with a goodfella remake and get rappers to act in it and call it "Belly".
