I hear u. There’s something to be said about an off year or gap year before or after college def. But man, it’s a competitive world lol, as u know. I think it’s def possible to have it both ways , but for this audience (introverts, kids) not sure if encouraging not thinking strategically or competitively is advisable.

Mos def. I don’t mean to say you shouldn’t think about where you’re going. I did the corpo thing for a couple years, it was cool for a minute just to have that stable 9-5 but I started to hate it so I devised a plan to use connects from that as a springboard into freelancing. I think there is value in those types of jobs because it can teach you whether or not you can thrive or stand to be in those environments and also show you what a “real” job is like post-college. Some people like those environments. It’s def not for me though.

I’m a white guy from a middle class family so I have had it much easier than many people in this country. And not everyone can afford to travel and such—plus I totally get some people who grew up in less ideal circumstances really just want that stable job/money post-college and there’s nothing wrong with that—in fact I encourage that, give yourself some breathing room! And it can be worth it to work for a few years at a job you’re not crazy about to save up some money to go on a trip or start your own business or whatever you wanna do.

I’ve just watched my younger cousins grind at decent paying jobs they hate, afraid to even ask for a couple weeks off in a row to go on a trip or whatever because “they’re needed at work.” I hate that “always work” American mindset. Everyone needs a break and room to breathe.

Unpopular opinion: Relationships work better with gender-defined roles
I'm not misogynistic and I am more than happy to help cook and clean (I do), but my relationship has kind of evolved to naturally encompass me supporting us financially and making the bigger decisions while she focuses more on the housework and keeping me happy. This dynamic works great for us - we are both very happy with me taking stress off her back and her off mine. This doesn't work for everyone but for my relationship - the traditional Male/Female dynamic actually works really well.

I work from home and my partner goes to so for me, it's sort of opposite. I think it's a case of having a role that works for you. If you're both happy, that's all that truly matters.

    This.

In the light of this I think we shouldn't (have to) feel 'ashamed' or guilty for having s-----y parents or family members. Its not your fault and others shouldn't make you feel that way either.

I think a nice balance between (hard) work and having fun is what keeps you going the most.

Honestly after a week (or day, or month) of working a lot that makes me feel satisfied. Having a feek off after even more!

But yeah its easy for me to talk since we have all the basic needs so its not like you're living on the streets here (most cases). And I have had a decent job ever since I started working + lots of freedom (I can make my own work schedule , decide when I want to have a day off or vacation).

But I feel u about the mentality of working ur a--- off and having no fun.. even if sometimes people dont have a chance when they have mouths to feed.

This! and also i think in a decade or two we will look back and think of us now as very naive towards smartphones and this digital era in general. The idea of walking around constantly with a thing that can just alert u at any random time to take away ur attention, almost like a ticking time bomb just cant be good lol. And the ammount of time spend on looking at screens cant be viewed as good either, no pun intended. It doesnt feel like the digital era is so new but it kinda is and it is not done that much of science on the physical and psycological effects until now.

Most men should avoid marriage. All risk while women only stand to benefit.

If divorce happens a woman often leaves unscathed. Meanwhile a man is often financially r---d. Having to give her cash, assets, and more often than not pay for her attorney. It’s essentially legalized pillaging.

I just don’t think the 50/50 chance of a divorce and all the bs that comes with it is worth it for most men.

Maybe if you get a prenup but women never wanna sign those. I wonder why?

Totally agree! I thought I was alone. I love beer but 99% of IPAs that I’ve had taste gross.

Hahaha seriously! I like a normal amount of hops flavor but IPAs are basically all hops flavored which is just gross to me. Even when they try to push other strong flavors in the beer, the hops comes through so strong and overpowers anything else used in the brewing process.

I’ll one up this one: no one should live their life trying/anticipating on finding a significant other. If it happens, it happens but so many people, women especially, are so hard on themselves for not having a significant other. Especially when they approach their mid 20s. I assume it’s the pressure of gender norms (women are suppose to have kids, care for their family etc.) but it just makes life so much more difficult. It’s also just overall bad for your health. You need to be able to be content & happy by yourself. If you can’t do that, that’s a huge problem.
