Mar 12, 2016 i'm really starting to enjoy this little project, i know this might sound stupid but the reality is kendrick has cemented a top 5 OAT and if his next album is the same, i think top 5 of all time is in order. People seem to skip this track Untitled 1 and go straight to Untitled 2, its actually so introspective with kendrick talking to god n s---. Untitled 1, 2, 5, 7, 8 are my favourites I love Untitled 3 but feel it lacks the emotion from the live performance, lyrical content is so deep Untitled 6 is my least favourite atm, Myke from DEHH summarises my thoughts on this album quite well, the song is too happy for me... you have an entire emotional project and then one happy track, just dosent fit imo what are your thoughts after its had time to sink in?
Mar 12, 2016 -yes it does sound stupid -no, "all time" isn't in order -3 isn't deep, it's just as lazy writing wise as HMADC -happy is an emotion. track 6 is underrated.
Mar 13, 2016 I love untitled 2 a lot. The rest is skippable I'm still anticipating lp 4 tho cause I know it'll be totally different from this sound.
Mar 13, 2016 ? most hip hop fans on different forums actually think untitled 1 might be one of his best songs ever
Mar 13, 2016 I think its slowly becoming my favorite kdot track, that beat is on some classic RZA s---.
Mar 13, 2016 Just like TPAB, that was fantastic musically so I'm glad its getting the critical acclaim. I love jazz, funk, blues, spoken word, and soul as well as conscious music, and that what I got from Kendrick without compromising himself to create some generic mainstream album.
Mar 13, 2016 I agree Kendrick is on an impressive run. The thing that most impresses me is that both albums are completely different. A lot of people would still be calling Kendrick an amazing artist/rapper/etc if he simply gave us GKMC 2. Instead he took a major risk and dismissed nearly every modern rap convention (trap, bangers, 808s, contemporary features, list of the hottest producers, etc). And the album is fantastic. It's not a "masterpiece" like tpab was, but its still a great piece of work.
Mar 13, 2016 Been listening to this on repeat and to think these on are just THROWAWAYS is amazing to me. I basically agreed with everything the guys in the DEHH interview said.
Mar 13, 2016 my ranking though: 1. Untitled 8 2. Untitled 3 3. Untitled 1 4. Untitled 5 5. Untitled 6 6. Untitled 7 7. Untitled 2 8. Untitled 4
Mar 13, 2016 eh happy isnt an emotion that usually gels well with a record like this sticks out facts
Mar 13, 2016 As an old head, I can tell kendrick really studied the greats, dude knows what hes doing. Track 1 sounds like something straight off Liquid Swords, s--- was amazing. track 6 is on some bossa nova type stuff. Some of the other tracks are like perfect blend of contemporary rap production and jazz Only regret is untitled 3...great song but the live version was better IMO Great EP/album, not sure if I'll listen to it a lot, but it's definitely great.
Mar 13, 2016 btw here is my review: http://fteswl.com/2016/03/05/the-ascent-of-the-creative-black-man/ spoil: 5/5
