So I quickly made this list at @Ben's request. This is a super hard list to make because majority of the films and filmmakers I like aren't American so I guess they all fall under this category, I picked the 15 films that most readily jumped into my head, I'm sure there are several that could replace them or are just as worthy. I'm doing one per filmmaker so basically any film on this list is made by a filmmaker who probably has several others that could fit in it just the same. Hope y'all get some recommendations out of it.

    1. Close-Up (Abbas Kiarostami)

    2. Tropical Malady (Apichatpong Weerasethakul)

    3. The Double Life of Veronique (Krzysztof Kieslowski)

    4. Mauvais Sang (Leos Carax)

    5. Sansho the Bailiff (Kenji Mizoguchi)

    6. Vive L'Amour (Tsai Ming-liang)

    7. Persona (Ingmar Bergman)

    8. Yi Yi (Edward Yang)

    9. Hunger (Steve McQueen)

    10. The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (Cristi Puiu)

    11. Vivre sa Vie (Jean-Luc Godard)

    12. Mirror (Andrei Tarkovsky)

Where the h--- is Spirited Away?
Not an Anime fan, but this movie is an animation masterpiece also in terms of message and philosophy.

Tis hard for sure, though my personal favorite Miyazaki film would have to be Princess Mononoke.
