I respect your post but I have to disagree with this.
The appeal doesn't have to grow, because being the best rapper shouldn't be subjective. Well, it is, but only when you reach a certain level, like for example when you compare nas to jay & Em, or lupe to black thought, etc.
Music really has nothing to do with rapping ability, it has to be separated from it when judging the rapping skills.

The problem with Thug is that some people confond fast rapping and good/complex flow. And to me, Eminem was a much better rapper on 90% of the songs he dropped (and I hate all of them). He had better lyrics, more complicated and structured flows and his rhyme schemes are still unbelievably amazing.
Now don't get me wrong, his rhyme schemes usually compromise the quality of his music, but there's no denying that Em is still a better mcee than most rappers.

Thug is indeed a better artist than Em atm but thats because hes currently making better music than him.

The ideal is to distinguish rappers from hip hop "artists", something that a lot of publications are alrady doing.

Word, I'm sorry - it's not the appeal that grows but the appreciation. The appeal is there, it's constant. It's hard to hear it if you're only listening on the surface. It's not the fast rapping. It's the cadences and the switch ups, the unimaginable flows that end up sounding natural. For example, Thug randomly raps over a Metro beat and leaks this:

Backwoods get you there yeah yeah
I want green like pear yeah yeah

And the Drake raps over the same beat and conveniently "comes up with" the same ad-lib.

And I got my n----s with me, yeah, yeah
She gonna end up dipping with me, yeah, yeah

Because he finds the most sideways approach to rapping over some of these beats, and when you listen, you can't hear it any other way.

I don't know man, hopefully you check out HiTunes when it drops and your opinion on Young Thug changes because he's actually a really talented rapper.

I don't like this and I don't agree with this. I see people distinguish hip-hop artists and rappers all the time on social media and it's really just another form of the "real hip-hop" argument. They're the same thing.

yep, and I don't think it has anything to do with this real hip hop thing, it's just making the difference between the music (with the rapping) and the rapping alone

like we were saying on the other page, you gotta know how to properly critique the rapping alone though. people arent saying thugs a great pure rapper because they're talking about just his music and getting confused. they know what theyre saying
