Oct 9, 2021 this is from an interview just after eminem released MMLP2... Q: A lot of people, maybe even you, think the original (mmlp) is your best album. A (Eminem): It’s probably my favorite. I think some of them are my favorites for different reasons. Hate to even say that about my own record, but I mean the first three records, I think they may have captured a time period. And then I think I pretty much probably have publicly said, you know, Encore and Relapse wasn’t – it was just a different time. so... eminem even thinks first 3 records was in another level and had huge impacts... but encore and relapse wasnt. if you are an eminem fan who witnessed him to release this first 3 records those days, you might remember, marshall mathers lp was way bigger than slim shady lp, and when eminem show was released, it far exceeded expectations and made a huger impact than mmlp... was encore a bad album? of course not. i love evil deeds, mockingbird and encore (one last time)... but even these songs have some problems with the way they sound. that was whole albums problem actually. everything sounds like pre-mix and not polished enough. lets think about the first single of album "just lose it"... probably the worst first single ever of an eminem album. if your best friends tell you the opposite, never talk to him/her again and dont regret about it. then we can easily say that there were really wack songs. i won't count any of em, because there are much and i know some of em might be someones all time favorite eminem song. i understand it because when i first listened to encore in 2004 i felt that "my 1st single" is my favorite i loved the hook but yeah the mix and the whole production quailty was way worse than we used to listen before. there was also another reason why production quality was not good enough and vibe was way out of expectations... first off all this is the first album eminem quit working with his first producer jeff bass... he replaced luis resto instead of him on encore. we heard luis resto on eminem songs two times before, he was keyboardist on "girls" of devils night lp and "say goodbye to hollywood" of The Eminem Show... but lets accept the fact that dre was just doing a few hits for first 2 albums, the rest was handled by jeff bass which we call these first 2 albums classics... then on eminem show dre just did 3 songs which were really dope but not the smash hits of the album and jeff bass was the hitmaker of the album, lets count: white america, cleaning out my closet, without me, sing for a moment, superman... all of em co produced by jeff bass with eminem and all were big hits with music video released for em. then suddenly em quit working with him. also dre started to work with two guys called mark batson and che pope and it really changed the way what dre does which didnt work well for both em and dre as we can see the following years of their career. that sudden changes effected encore in a bad way. by the way 3 bonus tracks were released in deluxe version of encore and 2 of em are my all time eminem favorites... we as americans and love you more... if these 2 songs raplaced with another 2 wack songs on the main tracklist and whole album could mixed properly, the frist single could chosen carefully (probably a very new song which didnt exist on the album) things could be different but it still would considered as a fall off after eminem show. if u agree or not, encore had good memorable songs but it couldnt do what first 3 records did and thats why we remember this album as a traffic accident on the road. maybe it should happen, its very acceptable after an album like the eminem show. it was like "oh my god, he did it again, 3 times!!!! and even bigger and better"... if you reach the top of the mountain sooner or later u need to come down... think about revival... if ball falls and touch to ground it always jumps and raises... thats what happened with kamikaze and mtbmb... not surprised. thanks if you read this till now... its long but truth had to be told
