I rly love d---. and still enjoy it to this day! adding to the globally critical praise it gained, the album landed with around 600k sales first week! a top charter hit song "Humble" and a very successful pop duet with rihanna "Loyalty"! this is really really huge for anyone's carrer but it made me wonder! what's are the possible effects this huge success will have on Kendrick's future music sound! will he ever have the balls again to go completely left with a project and risk sacrificing an impressive commercial performance? will he ever make something fully raw and unexpected as TPAB? or something really gritty, Hard, raw and kinda mainly directed to the hard-core hip hop community as much as GKMC was? idk but I feel like whenever an artist reaches that diva status they'll refuse to comeback to thier older selves and the lane they was previously on. it's easy to understand cause all of us have our egos and we can't deny the music world is a popularity contest for the most part! i mean it's all about evolution and we should be happy that the artist we love Is winning overall! and I'm personally satisfied as long as he keeps giving me good music! however all I was trying to point that imo d---. is the transition point in Kendrick's carrer and what we're having now is the modern new Kendrick Lamar which is not necessarily a bad thing! oh and he has a stylist now too

If he goes back to the less commercial style it will be worth the sacrifice because he will have more people listening to his music

You're askin ppl to predict another's success or failure...which is pretty difficult to do since we r not psychics lol.

Ultimately one could guess that it will just open more doors for Kendrick for example he signed that Nike deal which I'm not sure if that was done before or after..
    I guess..

More ppl would want to work with him
    Maybe a couple of grammy's

    And like Biggie said

    "Mo money, mo problems."

@Owl 2034 u should make threads more often tbh

I mention this in a thread the other day, Kendrick has changed so much with every album like TPAB was a stark contrast from GKMC.

With d--- he definitely went into a more mainstream rap sound

He had already had mainstream and cult success with GKMC and TPAB but he knew his next record would been his opportunity to make an impact globally and that's why he took the route he did imo. It paid off big time obviously

He's established himself as a hip hop giant imo, there's only a handful of those every generation. Mainstays of the genre, icons to everyone known by casuals and hardcore fans

    Wayne, Ye, Drake Kendrick etc

    Just curious...

Do u see Kendrick sticking to his rap style on d--- or TPAB .? .. he's said something like both are a culmination of all his albums when it comes to rap style but like you pointed out there were changes to both.
1 of the things i feel like was a change was his rap style.

I don't mean to say it in a bad way because it still produced great music, but Kendrick kind of dummed down his lyricism with the new incarnation of his style for this past album cycle and recent features

That's something I love about Kendrick...you can tell which era a verse is from easily once you hear it because his voice and overal approach to rhyming/lyricism is so different

I'm not sure which he will keep, if I had to guess I would say he's getting more experimental with his style so it'll be similar to d--- if anything

If Kendrick continues this, people will eventually realize he fell off. Kendrick needs to go back to that section 80 sound

i REALLY hope it doesn't affect his sound that much. d--- isn't my quite my favourite sound that he's done. I obviously don't want him to rehash TPAB but I hope he moves from the d--- sound a little bit.

    Term-X relevant.

The whole 'kung fu kenny' thing was a master stroke and so congruent with hip hop culture too, yet still making it original somehow to him. You have to keep reinventing yourself as an artist, all the greats did this to some extent. And with d---, Kendrick finally gave us the bangers we were hoping for with DNA & Be Humble, tracks that would be impossible to pull off on all his albums bar GKMC. He's surpassed all my expectations tbh, guys beyond what I thought was possible back in 2011.
