I honestly don’t think it’s even remotely close for SSLP.

sslp is very good almost in spite of itself––it's way too long, some of its beats are terrible, but it somehow makes the marriage of the zany to the personal seem natural. really accomplished album for how messy the songs themselves seem.

i don't think it needs to be "torn apart," that's a good record and a classic of its time. there's stuff on it that doesn't work for me but it's a very concentrated style (unlike sslp, and except for "the way i am")

i dont think hes GREAT at producing, but i think his sparse, amateur style rly suited him at his best lyrically.... beyond bass bros or the dre cartoon carousel hijinks.

and i dont think ur wrong about his overly conventional or stodgy notions on album making per se either. just that his beats had a moment where it clicked with his worldview and rapping abilities nicely. not defending like, his tupac records rly (tho again, if i wanted to get cute, id say some of his stuff gets underrated, slightly. we likely wont agree here.... but moment of clarity is a classic!!! 8 mile st holds up!)

When it comes to Em as a producer I think: are there any other rappers I really want to hear rap over his beats? Not really barring a few instances here and there, but some of what he’s produced has worked well for him on his own albums.

“Time of my life” by Macy Gray is the best song on 8 mile imo.

how so? the beats dre gave him were pretty sparse, gave him lots of room to work. i'm not a big fan of the stuff the bass brothers were doing, but the em beats are almost uniformly bad: atonal in an obvious, rather than provocative way, cheap-sounding despite the pristine dre or dre-lite mixes (a terrible combination), etc.

this isn't me dunking on eminem for the sake of doing so, i just truly think he was godawful at making beats and i'm glad he gave it up.

The all eyez on me comparison is really Interesting . He’s doubled his vocals from what TES-Recovery ? I don’t agree with all of it because it seems like you let 3-4 records content (say goodbye, the skit, soldier & sing for the moment) form your thesis for the album.

You really didn’t enjoy any of loyal to the game ? Or bass brothers production ? That’s crazy to me . When u look at Eminem’s whole production list on wiki I find it hard to believe you dislike all those beats. seems more like a hipster opinion to make you seem more sophisticated.
