    Well I think the music is definitely what forms the structure of that short, but I would argue that doesn't diminish the filmmaking that goes into it. I take the same approach using a Bon Iver song as I do when making visuals for original music created by my collaborator, I just like to branch out and use music from other artists to experiment. In my narrative work, for the past two films, I have been making sure to not use any copyrighted music; in the case of timbre. I'm going to acquire the rights to the Joanna Newsom song and all other music in the film is recorded by me and played and sang by the lead actress; and in ICED, the whole film is devoid of any score or music and just uses natural sounds and silence to create the atmosphere.

    I see your point, but the way that I use and approach these short projects is strictly to exercise my sensibilities and to grow as an artist, I don't plan on pushing them as big official projects or anything so that's why I freely use whatever music is inspiring to me atm.

    My music based project that I'm working on is a visual album that consists of all original music and the first single for it is included in that other link Kam posted.

    fair enough. yeah i mean -- the work is the work, youre right. you cant divorce scorsese's or tarantinos music choices from their films. i thought as an exercise, it was good

    Nah @Coco the Vageater You see @Vahn is a filmmaker that makes very abstract low-budget, terribly edited 'short films' that get over 100 plays on vimeo, therefore his opinions are more substantial and fact based than yours are. You don't know anything about films compared to him because his random shots of smoke and water layered over licensed bon iver music are more abstract than any film on IMDB's top 100 films list. Get educated before you speak to him
