Aug 24, 2020 i myself believe i am very far on the "Finally Rich" side of the political spectrum. big shouts out to ma jeweller
Aug 24, 2020 i agree. truth be told its not like i am groupchatting him pages from my diary irl lol. hes just a lightning rod, a punchline here. but i agree we can be active and thrive without him. for awhile, felt like the forums misfortunes were tied to him leaving. but as long as you and @Rick James and @the kid on mars are driving discussion, ill refrain from wishing n*rsh still loved us
Aug 25, 2020 but narsh is like, our annoying dumb ex gf we always emotionally (And physically) abused and cheated on but then she finally left us and we’re obsessed with her now
Aug 25, 2020 Mandatory mention of that time I got Paul and (consequently) Narsh to admit they’d b--- a tranny in some trans debate by accusing them of being transphobic if they wouldn’t cos they’d be admitting they still believe deep down that it’s not a ‘real’ woman And they were both like “I mean yeah I’d date a trans person if I really loved them”
Aug 26, 2020 Centre-left. Meaning I’m a left of centre liberal but not “progressive.” I believe in Keynesian economics but am probably slightly more socially conservative than my peers. Though I still (Mostly) agree overall on social issues. I’m also Canadian though and think I would be a lot more left leaning if I were in the U.S.
Sep 11, 2020 They’re almost as annoying as the marxists on Twitter with roses in their name. It’s close. Anyone who describes themselves as a centrist deserves to be publicly shamed though. Primarily because a vast majority of them aren’t really centrists.
Sep 13, 2020 it absolutely is. People who call themselves centrists fall into one of two camps 1) they don’t really pay attention to politics & naturally want to align themselves with the middle (even if they don’t actually vote that way) 2) snobby intellectuals who want to seem superior by maintaining this image of fairness, open to all ideas etc. Shame them, force them to pick a party & be done with it.
Sep 13, 2020 No. I’m a centrist as is the vast majority of the party lol. I guess like, define your terms. Biden is absolutely a practical moderate politician who appeals to middle of the road voters (hence his easy trek to the nomination) - maybe bc he’s begun embracing more progressive policies that doesn’t make him a centrist? Like let’s be clear, centrists are absolutely a major camp within the Democratic Party, they have defined it for 30 years lol. But the idea they deserve to be “publicly shamed” like its some zero sum game - what are you even implying here? What planet are you on with this train of thought In regards to your camps- 1. Plenty of apolitical people indifferent to daily horse trading call themselves “conservative” or whatever bc they equate it with stability and family values. There’s laziness in all corners of the political spectrum and tbh that’s kind of fine? 2. Again plenty of intellectuals and academics are driving progressive elitism. So like, no.
Sep 13, 2020 "Why won't people be as tribal as me about their political beliefs!!" seems like a weird suggestion. "Picking a side" so you can fight against "the other side" isn't a healthy or mature attitude to public debate. Unfortunately it's the norm, but I don't think it should be needlessly encouraged further... I don't think I'm a "centrist" (I don't really know what that means) but I strongly support policies proposed by both the right and the left, so I know it's possible to not need to "pick a side" like it's some football game. I agree that "centrists" that are non-committal about everything are annoying (and probably don't really care about much), but I don't think that means we need to shame and force all non-partisan thinkers into "picking a side" and staying with it. Sounds kind of juvenile to me (and counterproductive to constructive debate).
Sep 13, 2020 yes lol You’re conflating centrist with moderate here. They aren’t the same thing. A moderate Democrat isn’t a centrist. I’ll reiterate, a vast majority of Americans are not ideological. They like to *think* they are but they’re not. This is backed by decades of research in political psychology. Americans are partisans, they largely vote based on partisanship. There are some, tiny portion of the electorate, that like to claim to be centrist because they vote both ways. Those people deserve to be shamed. Pick a party that best represents your views & vote.
Sep 13, 2020 Ok but weren’t you just lamenting how academic and overly intellectual centrists are lol? Like this feels like a fairly pedantic point of view from someone calling for “centrists” to be tarred and feathered lol
Sep 13, 2020 This is annoying. Pretentious pricks who think people SHOULD pick a side even if both sides have r-----s
