Jan 5, 2015 Forest Hills Drive was cool album aside from Hello imo but i feel like "what more does J.Cole have to offer in terms of substance and things to talk about." He has given us great projects like Warm Up and FNL but I feel like I know everything I need to know from Cole unless he has more to say. Also i feel like he needs to branch out even more in production even though he has improved as a producer. I love Cole but I don't want to keep hearing the same thing over and over again. He can keep telling stories of others but I also want to know more of him and what he is going through. i dunno maybe I'm crazy, maybe I dunno what I'm talking about but what do you coons think on how he should take his next album or project?
Jan 6, 2015 Go down a more social commentary route maybe- tracks like Be Free, I Get Up etc Although for me FHD is near perfect. I think the next project I would want from Cole is the Kendrick collab. Think the timing is ideal
Jan 6, 2015 Good thread and a very legitimate question. I feel like weve heard everything about his life/childhood that we need to know. An album based around the stuff he talked about in his angie martinez interview, or the verse that he spit on letterman would be a solid concept for the next album. I feel like cole the person is more powerful than cole the artist right now. His albums dont get across what he really stands for.
Jan 6, 2015 More social commentary and bars like the Be Free Letterman performance. As long as he can do it in a non-preachy way like he did on Letterman it'll be dope as f---. And we know he got music with Dahi. Probably some legit bangers. We'll see what project he uses em for.
Jan 6, 2015 if he makes a wtt kinda album with kendrick...then kendrick releases his solo...2015 gonna be goat
Jan 6, 2015 I 2nd everyone's notion of more social commentary, now that Cole knows whatever he does will sell he should use that to full advantage. He can definitely explore new concepts to story-tell and it wouldn't hurt to hear more aggressive braggadocio style raps to balance it out.
Jan 6, 2015 n----s get bored of social commentary too, you're gonna get labeled as pure corn if you make that a gimmick. The trick to longevity is not boxing yourself in from a content perspective.
Jan 6, 2015 Down the line I think we'll look back at FHD as the pivotal album that changed his course as an artist as long as his discography improves from here on out.
Jan 6, 2015 I need more songs/verses like KTH remix and h---'s Kitchen where he just goes off. Doesn't do enough of that in his albums. If he can direct his passion in social commentary route and has an album with ridiculous flows he can *potentially* outshine the other big two. Then again only hip-hop heads will really appreciate those types of songs.
Jan 6, 2015 Whatever he feels Cole is a life artist. As his life changes so will his music. I trust that he won't be stagnant for a while. His trademark will always be everyday life s---. And I don't want that to change.
Jan 6, 2015 Word, I feel ya. I mean like 2-3 tracks with social commentary on his next album. Balance it with hits/bangers/feel good music.
Jan 6, 2015 I don't mind him rapping about the same subjects over and over again, I mean that's LIFE, as long as he does it creatively, he'll keep interest from people
Jan 6, 2015 Exactly that, his music has an identity but he's not boxed in content wise. When you think of artists that boxed themselves in, 50 Cent comes to mind.
