Feb 20, 2016 Obviously every human being should be able to choose any career path they want so long as they are mentally/physically capable of fulfilling that role. There's nothing wrong with a man being a teacher/nurse and there's nothing wrong with a woman being a lawyer/doctor. That's a nonissue and it's missing the point, because clearly there's no law banning women from pursuing these jobs. This topic is complaining about people blindly following statistics yet you're hinging this topic on generalizations like "women just purposefully choose be teachers/nurses instead of choosing to be lawyers/doctors so it's not an issue." I don't have statistics in front of me either, and there probably are disproportionately more women who choose to be teachers/nurses. But for years it was engrained into society that there were "male" jobs and "female" jobs and you can't ignore that. It's not as overt anymore but the effects of this don't just go away overnight. It's going to take years, especially because people who were raised during that time period are still in the workforce. You're crazy if you think discrimination in these fields doesn't exist and that said discrimination doesn't affect the hiring/promotion process.
Feb 20, 2016 Ahhhh, see, now you're doing what the feminist that you hate oh so much do, just with a different argument. "The pay gap exists because of gender discrimination!" "No, it exists because of your career choice!" The pay gap exists for a multitude of reasons, not just one. Closing the gap completely may very well be impossible but working towards getting it as small as we can is a positive. What's so wrong about wanting women to thrive in the work force? I don't understand.
Feb 20, 2016 There's literally nothing stopping women from pursuing higher-paying career options. Nothing. Women are accepted into colleges in higher numbers, they graduate in higher numbers, they receive more scholarship funding, they're even more likely 2/1 to be hired in the STEM fields. There is N O T H I N G stopping women. They just choose to not pursue these careers. You'll never have everything 50/50 (again, unless you completely eliminate people's rights to choice). And like I already said, it seems quite a bit more misogynistic to imply women generally make the wrong choices and thus require a handhold through life, rather than just accepting that men and women generally make different choices.
Feb 20, 2016 Read the government CONSAD report on this gap. It is undeniably completely the result of differing choices.
Feb 20, 2016 lol no one reasonable is saying every single job should have a 50/50 gender split. So basically you're denying that discrimination in the job force exists in any capacity? You been on r/redpill too much brah.
Feb 20, 2016 cant be arsed searching, but you should find some articles about it in google. In some places they actually couldn't find female sewage workers, so they couldn't get a statistic. you're the youngest person here, kid.
Feb 20, 2016 To believe that an issue as big as pay gap is solely due to one variable is incredible naive. If you read the pew research report I posted a page back it acknowledges the difference in career choice but there are other variables to consider as well.
Feb 20, 2016 And here's a link containing a detailed explanation, as well as over 3 dozen additional sources http://www.fighting4fair.com/uncategorized/the-myth-of-wage-disparity/ There's a very good reason that no real economist takes this claim the least bit seriously.
Feb 20, 2016 I'm currently at the gym so I'll give this a peak later. If it's argument is that the pay gap exists solely due to career choice, I'm sorry, I'm just not buying it. To disregard maternity leave, socioeconomic issues (growing up poor, violent environment etc.) & work place discrimination as if they don't exist what so ever or don't play a factor, is incredibly stupid.
Feb 20, 2016 This is the only "feminism" thing I agree with. There's been lots of s--- through media/tv/internet/growing up where you're told "this job is for males, this one for females" etc. What I don't get is why this social construct is being fought with by a movement called "feminism" I will NEVER understand why it's called "Feminism" if it's meant to be a movement about equality. Why not just call it "equal rights in the workplace" ? because that's literally what it is. The word "feminism" is going to turn males away/cause bias, purely because of the name (I have heard feminists argue this point, saying "BUT THATS THE POINT, MEN ARE MEANT TO BE TURNED AWAY THEN RE-PROGRAMMED TO UNDERSTAND ITS OKAY TO EMBRACE FEMININITY")
Feb 20, 2016 If anyone wants to help close the gap, go to University gender studies classes and tell each and every attendant that they are the problem.
Feb 20, 2016 f---ing lolololol @ citing a men's rights blog called "Prawn of the Patriarchy". Read the about me: "This blog does not, however, shy away from discussing particular flaws apparent in some women." This blog is a perfect example of the mental gymnastics some of yall do to convince yourselves discrimination doesn't exist. Holy s---.
