Mar 7, 2016 Because the internet. Rapping/Singing over old beats/instrumentals is kinda boring. People want original s---. They want you. And you don't really need labels anymore when you can just put your s--- up on Soundcloud, Datpiff, Bandcamp, etc. Also a home studio is cheap af nowadays (Relative to what it used to be). So yeah. Mixtapes are free albums because it just makes sense that way. No one cares about some dude rapping over Lose Yourself for the hundredth time. It's boring.
