    Imagine using album sales to determine music quality. Are you 12 years old? What does it being a sequel have anything to do with its quality? MMLP2 doesn't even compare to the original. Not even remotely close.

    Exactly, when has it become acceptable to ignore one of the most important aspects of rap music?
    An album doesn't need to be super lyrical to be good (doggystyle, chronic,...) but if your s--- contain wack lyricism (yeezus), that s--- is just trash to me.

    At the end of the day, music is still music. It doesn't matter how meaningful the lyrics are if the song itself doesn't sound good, just like it doesn't matter how good a film's script is if the film itself is poorly made.

    Never seen alot of disrespect for kendrick or royce till I came on this site tbh. On rap genius you don't have it neither. It seems like people just want to be different here. Many of yall s--- on legends too and it made you seem edgy and insecure

    Not the fanbase its the way his messages come off. Its like "the government is lying to you I don't vote I hate Obama bc the govt is a joke". Its very overbearing sometimes and i used to like IT

    I think Bad Guy + Groundhog Day are pretty universally liked as far as new Eminem goes. Not so hot on the other two.

    It was on the OP, and I think it explains the problem pretty well. Yeah, cole touches on more serious subjects, but everything cole does has been done before. Guys like carti/yachty/thug-- in addition to being able to touch on that kind of subject matter when they want to-- are treading new ground, creating new sounds and setting the bar for what future generations will expect of that sound.

    People have some misconception that lyrical=rapping like eminem (not trashing em here) but s--- like Geto Boys is plenty lyrical without muktisyllabic rhyme schemes and all that s---, like yeah if you have that in that's a nice additional skill but the category of lyrical isn't as narrow as conscious heads try to make it seem. Was Shakespeare bad because he wasn't a lyrical spiritual individual?

    Sure there's a lot of Kendrick hate, but there's just as much drake hate or thug hate or Uzi hate etc etc, and some of the complaints are valid some aren't, but this thread is exposing a mentality that more complicated words=better words or more serious music=better music and the only way anyone can consider that true is if they're warping the definition of music to match their preference.
