Why is there stigma with admitting a newer rapper may be the GOAT?

After SSLP, MMLP, and then TES, most people would think he's the GOAT

Because it's entirely subjective. You can say an album you like is classic or that an artist is the GOAT, but does your statement really have any merit besides it being based on your preference?

    *In 2003

If Eminem died after 2003 it would be the same as now

Maybe but consider the new generation of stans that cropped up around Recovery and kept him going to the sales heights he's seen.

That's because he went commercial on that album. The album was pretty trash though

    Sigh

The main argument against Eminem is the fact that he fell off. If he died in 2003 most people would say he's the GOAT. Same thing if Nas died after IWW or I Am...

SSLP, MMLP, and TES are his only good albums, but they're all classics

no. no. not even f---ing close, dude. yes, eminem's early work was better than what came later. but you're living in a fantasy world if you think "most people" had him at #1 all time. that's mostly an opinion that started to crop up from stans during his post-encore hiatus. when mmlp was out, no one was like "wow, this guy...better than big, better than q-tip."

I'm not saying everyone. Em still lacked good subject matter. But, most people would probably choose Eminem if he died in 2003. Nobody was saying BIG or Pac were the GOAT in 96 and 97. After they died, people started saying it. They had the "best rapper alive" status but not the GOAT status. If Eminem died in 2003 people would praise him more because of his death

I bet he was comfortably in the conversation for more than a few people's top ten, including hhh. The hype was contagious.

its not meaningless when applied to the question in the OP, my point still remains why tf does it matter if they're dead.

No, I'm making that reference to say Kendrick isn't the GOAT because we haven't seen the full extent to his career, and if Eminem died in 2003 more people would say he's the GOAT because we would've never seen him fall off
