Sep 26, 2017 i'm not even sure, man. people on these message boards grossly overestimate the extent to which eminem's fall-off dampens his standing in these debates. if anything, his continued chart presence/sales numbers have bolstered his reputation. i don't think he's taken a significant hit. in the abstract, i don't think that's a terrible thing: i see no reason why artists should be punished too severely for weaker work that came after their creative peak, provided they're seen as minor projects compared to the big ones. (this applies more clearly in the case of someone like ice cube; eminem's awful records were definitely pushed as Major Works.) but the opinion that eminem's first three albums are somehow this golden run that vault him to the front of the line is really not a majority opinion in the real world, nor should it be.
Sep 26, 2017 He fell off as a rapper. He started making much worse albums and changed his delivery and flow
Sep 26, 2017 I worded it wrong but it was a response to this. Not only were his albums worse but so was his rapping
Sep 26, 2017 .......................................i know, that is literally a point that i make in my post.
Sep 26, 2017 a corollary: people who have eminem at, like, #5 in their top fives (or #10 in their top tens, or etc) are generally rap fans; people who have him at #1 generally are not.
Sep 26, 2017 i can't believe i made a two-paragraph post and this guy responded by echoing one of the post's givens lol
Sep 26, 2017 dude, we're sitting on an internet forum discussing rap music, i'm pretty sure every single person in here accepts that eminem fell off atrociously in every sense. (i also think it should be implied that a worse eminem album necessarily means worse eminem rapping, since he's never really been much of a songwriter, the few obvious oscar-winning exceptions aside.) what do you disagree with from my initial post?
Sep 26, 2017 The most common top 5 everyone always says is Jay, Nas, Pac, Big, and Eminem. That's today. If Eminem died right around the time of, say, 8 Mile, he would absolutely be even more revered. It's not that controversial to say he would be a LOT of people's GOAT.
Sep 26, 2017 i think it does. you're implying a difference of opinion among rap fans; i'm saying we'd mostly be dealing with cults of varying sizes.
Sep 26, 2017 Agreed OP because in my humble opinion (not a factually correct fact...yet) Lil Uzi Vert is the greatest musician of all time ® Already better than all 90s RAPPERS
Sep 26, 2017 How? I'm implying a difference of opinion among rap fans in a hypothetical world where Eminem dies in 2002. You're talking about current day 2017.
