No one in this thread mentioned Treme.

Also, OZ was practically a prequel with a lot of the same cast showing up on that show earlier. Highly recommend it.

Hi guys me and my friend went on a mini Wire site tour today in Baltimore. Thought you might appreciate- swung by where Avon’s and Stringer’s headquarters were. Also got dinner at Faidley’s which is where McNulty goes at one point tbh. Pretty fun, sure we went by other spots as well

Orlando’s strip club on South Broadway was the base of operations for Avon Barksdale’s crew during the first seasons of The Wire, until ambition got the better of Orlando. As it was during filming, the location is actually a strip club — the Ritz Cabaret. Stringer Bell’s copy shop is just a few doors down at 510 S. Broadway.

There does not need to be a sequel to this, seriously. The Wire is literally the greatest tv show I have ever seen. While I personally didn't like the ending, from an objective and unbiased standpoint the show ended in a way that was consistent with how every season flowed.

Making a sequel to this will run the risk of not being able to reach the high bar that has been set by the show itself, and making a sequel to it is insinuating that whoever is creating it believes they would be able to achieve that level of storytelling again, which is a lot, a lot, a lot to live up to.

The whole series premise revolves around how the police stop a kingpin in an attempt to break the cycle, but the cycle inevitably restarts. It's the perfect series to make a sequel for, especially in current day and age. Call it the Web or some s--- instead of the wire. Same thing, different generation and era of technology.

the wire isnt sentimental, anyone could die at any time. the streets arent romantic, so even though omar was a beloved, deeply likable antihero (celebrated by kids as a deadly sort of robin hood), and a symbol of baltimores grit maybe, it was fitting that he was ultimately subsumed by his own legend. (especially the whole point of the show is how society has broken down, so having this larger than life figure, so unstoppable, finally get his number called by a child is pretty poetic. shows how much that world has degraded, no innocence)

What @Captain Awesome AKA Papa said. Also, I don't think it was ever a question whether or not Omar was gonna die in the game, it was just a question of when and by who. But I will add one thing: back in season 3 I believe, there's a scene of these little kids playing with sticks as guns and arguing over who "gets to be omar." Kenard (the kid who killed him) is one of those kids. So there is a connection there.
