Feb 24, 2017 I think it's without saying that everybody's opinion on the album is mixed. The internet blew up when the commercial aired and we saw MMLP2 and noticed that he was blonde again. But nothing about the album seemed MMLP-esque aside from Bad Guy and a few references here and there. But what if you didn't have the expectations you had when the album was announced that he was going to go back to his old days? Would you appreciate the album and the songs a bit more or would you have the same opinion? And what would you have called the album?
Feb 24, 2017 I think most people overhyped the album for themselves when it came out and forced themselves to like it more than they did. When it came out almost everyone on SL liked it. Some even calling it flawless and a classic. Nowadays everyone thinks it's bad to mediocre. Some of that might have to do with the title but my opinion on the album hasn't changed much since it came out mostly because I couldn't care less about titles. Everyone wanted it to be more than it was because it's a sequel to MMLP.
Feb 24, 2017 The typical Eminem-related cycle. When the next album comes out, posters will likely call MMLP2 flawless again.
Feb 24, 2017 no, the name didn't matter to me cuz I was late to the hype and I think it's pretty great album
Feb 25, 2017 Absolutely. Or it would've at least changed the hype and not had the comparisons. Could've still kept all the references whilst calling it something else.
Feb 25, 2017 Labelling trash something else doesn't mean it's no longer trash. The source is still disposable.
Feb 25, 2017 pretty sure the name for the album was decided only a few months before release. cant wait to know the name of the next album , em is really lacking inspiration.
Feb 26, 2017 Brainless to me sounds the most like MMLP era song he's done since. The flow and voice in some parts are classic. Album would have been classic if he took off a------, Legacy, Survival & replaced them with Groundhog Day, Baby, Wicked Ways. Instead he put those on the deluxe edition and people who bought the CD didnt even know about the Deluxe edition. All the stores by me had the original album in front of the store by the music isle while the deluxe edition was buried in with all the other CD's.
Feb 26, 2017 He decided it early on actually. He said that in a few interviews. Then he directed the material for the MMLP2 theme.
Feb 26, 2017 Insulting to Encore tbh. MMLP2 had no classic tracks like Toy Soldiers or Love You More.
Feb 26, 2017 cause if he said it in interviews, it must be true..... Im not saying im 100% right(I could of course be wrong) but him saying that in interviews doesn't mean anything.
Feb 26, 2017 Kinda bothers me the strongest performance on the album was Bad Guy (imo). If that's the case, how low has the standard gone? Smh
Feb 28, 2017 Probably not, no. The MMLP2 title is just a shame. But the album is either good or it isn't. His rapping is brilliant and almost all the songs are great, but it's not a great album, and it's one of his least cohesive. I thought Recovery was muddled, but in retrospect it's just s--- (production-wise). Just loud & tacky, but it does actually have a vibe and stick to it... it's not all over the place. MMLP2 is like a mixtape. And it's just a shame to have that kind of an album associated with the classic title, as MMLP had SUCH a vibe to it. Particular sounds and grooves, it feels like something from front to back, there's no 'whoah wtf' moments or just s--- sticking out all over the place or feeling wholly unrelated sonically.
Feb 28, 2017 im fine with both name and the album.. could've been great if he removed tracks like a------ and survival and those deluxe edition gems weren't wasted like that.. im glad tho cause he had great moments in it and some tracks with glimpses of his old self.
Feb 28, 2017 Encore didn't have Rap God, Bad Guy, Evil Twin, Headlights, Groundhog Day, Wicked Ways...
