Ah okay. I didn't follow it all that closely. I didn't even know he had an album coming until the day it dropped. I thought it was months away.

Regardless, I don't see why that should detract from the album. It should just be judged in a vacuum. You obviously just don't like it though. "Supremely boring, hacky album" seems really harsh lol. It's growing on me the more I listen to it. I find the fact that it was rushed endearing. It's very in the moment. Think it's pretty cool for one of the biggest artists in the world to make a decision like that. Even down to the album cover. He took the picture on a plane like a week before its release. He's a very authentic person. That's a big part of the message for me. It's admirable. I know some may think I'm stanning or reaching for feeling this way but like I said... I didn't even know the album was coming soon. I love Kanye as an artist but who doesn't really.

i don't get it, album ain't amazing, but it's not bad either, easy 7/10

who gives a f--- what dumb s--- he said before the album dropped, it's irrelevant to the quality of the music and has no impact on it

well....no. that’s not how popular art works, nor should it be.

but, judged in a vacuum, these seven songs are—to me, someone who thinks highly of kanye’s abilities—both bad and boring.

I don't agree. I guess you can judge it however you want to though. I just figured as you're a music critic it would work like that.

Your opinion is pretty offensive to me tho so I don't think I'm gonna pay for the rest of it lol

you're under no obligation to give me money, lol.

    but re: your third sentence

are you saying you think critics should treat art as if it's hermetically sealed off from the world?

I don't know man. Kind of. I mean I think I'd prefer to do things that way myself but I'm obviously out of my depth when it comes to that world. I haven't given it enough thought... but when you put it like that it puts a different spin on it (a fair one tho). I tend to judge music simply as an expression of that one individual in that moment though. That's what's so beautiful and compelling about it. And that's why I like this album. It's very true to himself at this moment in time.

I honestly believe art should be generally judged in a vacuum, most people dont even give a s--- about anything outside of the art they are experiencing. Its really only a select amount of people that let the artists actions and opinions impact their opinions on the work. So I guess youre just reviewing the album for yourself and the small amount of people who think like you do.

    a. all art is a product of the society and the time that birthed it, that's literally part of the art
    b. no one (well, no one credible) is saying "kanye did x so the album must be bad." no one.

But I mean why does it have to detract from it or be used as criticism at all? I understand if you want to judge it like that but why is it as necessary as you're making out?

art is the actual art in question

not random s--- outside of it. that s---'s pretty much irrelevant

that kinda weird s--- is why I don't f--- w/ reviews 99% of the time, because there's always some weird segue into some s--- about the artists life or what they ate for breakfast and why it makes the album bad and I'm like who gives a f--- :what22:

it has nothing to do with the music, foh w/ that weird s---
