Oct 31, 2017 Great comparison, and I’m sure there’s more albums like this too. The fat joe and remy project would’ve sold a lot more if it came out like 2 weeks after all the way up, or even better after the remix with jay-z.
Oct 31, 2017 I have no idea! I think it started sometime that year though. I mean I checked out his album because of Best Friend. I bet others did too. I liked Radioactive. Didn't like Love Story. Haven't checked this one out though. Don't plan to.
Oct 31, 2017 I believe this is the case. I don't f--- with yelawolf at all. But if I were to listen to him, I need hip hop beats. I'm a hip hop head. I will absolutely never f--- with this country/rock/hip hop fusion bs. That s--- hurts my ears. So yea, I think as he went even more country and rock, more casual fans were turned off. Plus not having an eminem feature definitely hurt his sales.
Oct 31, 2017 Exactly why I can’t blame shady for his sales being low because I’m sure more ppl think like this
Oct 31, 2017 I dont know Yall blaming Ye(L)awolf himself for this is kind of harsh I mean how do you all know how much control he had over the release schedule and things like that? Like Daylight came out about a year ago, and sure it would have been smart to push the album earlier in 17 but, Yelawolf probably has little control with the marketing system. In my personal opinion without going too in depth, I listened to Trial By Fire in its entirety today for the first time and I definitely land it above Radioactive-- ppl would be insane to put that above any projects to follow. TBF has a lot of heart. More than Love Story I think. But also this-- Love Story's release was around Shady XV plus it had the Em feature on Best Friend. Maybe Love Story was the raw lyrical delivery mixed with a country tinge that Yelawolf fans were into but Trial By Fire seems like a more mature and deeper endeavor. I'm not ranking it above Love Story necessarily but lets think about it. Love Story was released between album cycles for Eminem, the verse was on the table along with a bit of XV promotion with Twisted and Til Its Gone and whatnot. But with TBF and Yelawolf's well documented breakdown and general shift in artistic direction, I think these sales numbers are neither surprising nor lacking in sense. It's likely that he did not want to collaborate with Eminem on this album not because Em wasn't willing to but maybe more because he didn't want a feature to draw attention to his album. He's not speaking to Stans, he's just putting a record out. The only rap feature he even had was Juicy J rigjht? TBF is Yelawolf's story. Also I'm not defending this album's sanctity or whatever. I've heard it once from start to finish and I thought it was like... good? Maybe a comfy 6/10? I just think the sales aren't so bad if you consider these things; 1) the interest of a genral (especially hip hop geared) audience 2) the nature of its release (a label decision to place it in the shadow of Revival promotion) and most importantly 3) the personality of the project-- Yelawolf's stronger-than-ever decision not to pander and to tell his own story--even if you think it is s---. I think it's respectable that he got his word out there. I respect that he did so despite Eminem working on his own album and either not wanting to contribute or not accepting a feature. Yelawolf is down to earth and realistic despite sharing a label with one of the most successful artists in the world. Most of you stans would get ur d----s surgically removed to be on the same cut as an Em verse and yet here you are criticizing. The project is OK but Yelawolf did his thing at the end of the day like??? If it didn't sell it didn't sell but the hustle is real and u really wanna hate on that alright Idk man this is a huge drunken essay. I'm not a Yela fan and probably won't revisit TBF but its really a goofy a--- move to blame its sales on the consumers cause we just listen to what we like. I wouldn't personally buy a copy of the album but I respect the effort enough put in it to realize he isn't just a label puppet desperate for money. There are moments of genius and artistry and that's cool when you're on the same label as Eminem.
Oct 31, 2017 he did himself dirty, pushing back the album multiple times and not including any real good features. he's basically done with Shady Records. this isn't a real hip hop album either, it's a country album.
Oct 31, 2017 Just peeped yelaowlf section on hhs and its a g.d. cult with same 4 members worshipping him. Jesus christ.
Oct 31, 2017 I've done almost 3 listens of the album. I don't get why people are trying to spin this to be better than Love Story. Overall it seems massively uninspired and tbh kind of a mess. But to each their own I guess.
