That's just a dumb a--- MFer being a huge c----, r-----ed usage of the word doesn't dismiss the existence of it.
I understand the term is super hard to grasp because the world isn't that black and white (no pun) , obviously there's exceptions to every rule but the exceptions don't prove that the problem doesn't exist. White privilege isn't about not being a dumb f--- and not slipping on a banana peel, it's about when you compare the whole groups you see white privilege. Being born white and straight doesn't guarantee you a perfect life, it just gives you better odds

But if i had of been born not-white in Australia as an Aboriginal/Torres strait islander I would have been open to free government housing, free schooling, free employment programs + employment programs specifically to fill vacancies with ATSI people. But maybe white privilege still exists because some people are racist and I will get called names for being ATSI.

Or what about government initiatives to boost diversity, that give bonuses to businesses that hire refugees/minorities etc? That's obviously gonna throw your white privilege out the door.

How i see the term is that it's a general representation, not that it just sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't. How i see it, is like for example being born black in america gives you a higher chance to having to live in the ghetto, which ultimately gives you a disadvantage. Not just because you're black (though sadly even that is the case sometimes) but because of your upbringing

Yeah there's exceptions to every rule and i think all those things are pretty good and lessen the gap (im not too well versed on australias history tho sadly) but yeah i guess u should read my other post bcuz it seems like we understand white privilege differently

Yeah, well in my opinion, being born into a poor family (regardless of skin colour and nationality) increases your chance of living in the ghetto.

To expand on that, IMO a large reason as to why a lot of "ghettos in america are filled with a majority of black people" is because of a racist system years ago relating to government housing commission. Then these people and their children/childrens children will likely be trapped in these ghettos as opportunities overall, are much less for poor people. Which then leads to modern day ghettos still reflecting a racial bias of having predominately black people (though America's history isn't common knowledge to me, I'm fairly certain that's a rough idea of what happened I also believe a lot of ghettos in America are also filled with immigrants and a large portion are mexican, for example)

yeah I agree and also believe the pendulum swinging back and forth and pissing contests over who is more oppressed and who has a shittier life based on things like race etc is trivial.

Kind of like you said, the damage has been done already and we can't undo what has already been done. So imo, the best course of action is working towards securing a better future, instead of sitting in the past pissing and moaning about who's ancestors were mistreated most. But that's pretty much moving away from the white privilege talking point and onto "how do we make the world a better place"
