but that's difficult and blaming outside factors is easier, while also removing any kind of stigma people have against you and replacing it with sympathy, because you're going through a struggle

Even tho the subject is entirely different @Coco the Vageater does have a point.

Should german people feel guilty for what other germans did in the 1930-40's? No.

Should we blame them for what their ancesters did? No.

Kind of the same situation, except that racism is still alive -just talking about the past people keep bringing up-

A lot of Germans would probably disagree with you. It's illegal to fly the nazi flag in Germany. Confederate flags fly throughout the U.S., even some southern states have confederate flags flying on their capital building. A lot of Americans lack empathy tbh.

Yes but not having nazi flags is common sense.. having them would be disrespectful. Thats different than guilt though.

If your grandfather or whatever was a mass murderer, is there any blame to put on you? No.

Of course empathy is good, but we shouldn't feel guilty about things we didn't cause -showing respect and empathy, of course-

Well that's kind of my point. Germans are aware enough to realize their dark history and remove such symbolism from their society. That's the ability to empathize and recognize the pain their ancestors commited. Americans try to distort history and claim the confederate flag doesn't symbolize hatred. There are still statues of confederate generals standing in the south who not only fought against the U.S. but fought to maintain slavery. These guys aren't heroes but a lot of Americans look at them as such. When it's suggested we take these statues down, there's an uproar. They tell black people to "get over it." It's just two totally different responses to atrocities.

    Well that too.

ya Germans definetely reject their history because they are full of empathy and feel bad. nothing to do with the the many related symbols being completely outlawed and many other laws against questioning/debating the holocaust.

I've met quite a few people of German descent, most have a strong distaste for gays and think current Germany's ruined by immigrants/refugees. not that is sientific evidence every german is closet nazi, just think when they have the freedom to speak in another country they have a lot more to say on these kinds of topics. (one of my friends is half German and one time we were playing this meek mill - juice song but my mate sings over the top saying "lil n-----, cause i killed the jews, when i hop out da coupe, i k--- the jews real german imma salute" and ofc topped it off by throwing his arm up doing the hitler salute thing wjatever its fucken calleed. was hysterical, one of the funniest thins ibe ever seen. if he did that in germany and he could habe got arrested very easily

swastika is also a symbol that has been used in many different cultures and religions throughout history as a symbol of peace, though i assume "swastika" is the german word for it
    (fucken phone. )
and the symbol had a different name relevant to each culture/religion.

pretty funny how they took a symbol previously used for peace and made it into some boogeyman symbol

? my point is its illegal to do/say these things in Germany, maybe thats why you dont see/hear about it.

i've seen borderline "nazi" behavioir in Germans living in Australia, im not saying all germans are closet nazis, just when they are in Australia where you can discuss tgese things without criminal charges, they habe a lot more to say. One of my friends who moved to europe, and is now living in berlin is outspoken (wow oitspoken aussie wow) and hes said whilst drunk hes asked things like "what do you think of ww2" or raises questions about the holocaust to locals, he said they are very reluctant to speak at all and most get really defensive and just wont say anything relating to it.

    aight aight

well... I'm German as you prolly know and I'm very very open about this
I almost only know outspoken people about this
(not trying to dispute your point right now)
just saying, most Germans aren't as closet about this s---
    we're open about our history
I'm not even close to a Nazi but I don't take any s--- especially not from uneducated Americans. Internet showed me a lot of these

don't blame Americans, not their fault their education system teaches them the sun revolves around America :coco:
thats quite interesting though, as my friend was met with a lot of defensiveness and closed-off people on the topic, I assumed it was cause of the laws regarding it (kinda like they were paranoid they may accidentally say aomething wrong and be suspected of nazism, or something along those lines)
really? i though nazi related slogans were outlawed too? things like seig heil, 1488 and similar
