So I'm in charge of making an hour and a half playlist for a wedding. I've f----- around a tiny bit in ableton and mixxx, but definitely don't know enough about this s--- to do anything live (so basically I'm just gonna create a "recorded" set with some fades and al)l. The auto-DJ in mixxx seems simple enough, but I feel like I want a little more control over it than just an auto-fade between each song.

I want to cut off some songs early so I can fit more songs in and perhaps make a few things transition in different ways and a blend or two (I wanna try my hand at f---ing around with future's part in king's dead and/or gucci g--- to f--- with one of my friends cuz it's just gonna be a fun/casual thing).

Is there an easy way/good program to just put all these songs in a "timeline" (like when you're editing video in final cut or premiere) and mess around with the start points/end points/transitions/blend s---/etc? Maybe there is in the programs I was looking at and I was just overwhelmed. I'm a pretty big novice with anything like this but I feel like I'm also savvy/a quick learner at media-editing programs due to my experience with adobe creative suite, final cut, etc.

    Thanks yall.

idk if you have a mac, but garageband is great for simple edits like the ones you mentioned in the OP

You got a link to the sxn80 discord? I tried to find the link the other day but it was expired.

And yeah I got GarageBand, that's what I usually use for f---ing around with blending two tracks into one etc but I think it'd be too tedious for an hour and a half of songs. There's just not quite enough options (or maybe I just don't know about them lol).

    Thanks!

btw the more I thought about using garageband, the more I realized that it would be easiest since I already know the interface and I'm really not doing anything that complicated. it's working out well, thanks dude!

I f----- around on mixxx a little back in my house party days but I had no idea wtf was goin on and just ended up using fade ins and outs (which is apparently enough to really impress college kids lmao)

    good luck man

Thanks dude, maybe I'll post it here after the wedding. Trying to get a good mix of classics, new hits, and deep cutz. They said "you can put on as much rap as you want" so I'm not too worried lol. I got the 11PM to 1AM set so everyone's bout to be f----- up and hyped for anything.

I've only ever made a few short mixes, and it was a nightmare for me. Good luck to you if you can figure this out.

I'm not doing anything super complicated—just cutting off some songs that I only want parts of and making sure all the transitions are smooth whether they're fades or start directly after or whatever.

Oh and looping future's part of King's Dead a bunch of times lol

Oh this took me weeks to figure out and master back when I used to do this. I had an old Pioneer XDJ 2-Channel set that I f----- around with for days on the crossfade to get it right, so it does take some time & practice...As for programs like Mixxx, GarageBand and even Audacity have this thing called cue points that you can select in a part of a song where you want it to cut in (and even play back to the song). They should also have FX (sound effects) where you can click it and select a noise you want (if you can find or dl airhorns!) and then fade into the next track.

It more or less takes some practice to get it right but don't let that discourage you, feel free to pm me in case you or anyone else has more questions!
